What did you do with your flock today?

AND! Out of 9 eggs, 3 exploded, 2 unfertilized, 2 early quiters, 1 did not rotate fully and 1 hatched. ... the dredded one chick hatch.
And that is what happens when the settings on your incubator are off for a few days.
So I picked up 7 more RSL to grow out for a pal who wanted more chicks.

Also, trying to get cute photos of Forest but he keeps walking towards the camera. I need some ADOPT ME! photos so KHS can post and get him a wonderful home of his very own.
Anybody??!!

🌺 Happy Aloha Friday!
Went down the mountain last eve for a quick quiet visit. It was wonderful.
I changed all of the chick bedding and cleaned food and water dishes, fed meal worms. Always fun! Brought down a few more bags of mulch and cut logs for the run.
This morning installed logs, readied run to except new coop- moving feed station and waters, level and then put down new mulch. Fed chicks bugs and worms 😋🪳🪳🪳🪱🪱 . DH will move into place with one of the young bucks this eve or morrow morn I think and hope.
I'll bring down a few chickens tomorrow. Start to unwind.
Came up, let main flock out to forage, exercise and play.

Aloha kakahiaka all!
Sorry about your arthritis @penny . I'm sure it makes everything harder and less fun. Maybe good time to sit down with a cup of tea and enjoy the view ♡
@kurby :barnie young boys are pesky. Thank goodness they grow out of it and have a chance at being fine men... maybe... hopefully... 🤦‍♀️ 🐓🐕. I hope you don't have much longer housesitting and can get back to your home. Your story cures me of wanting a lab pup ever. Thanks lol.

Well, I got back up the mountain a little late Monday. Mom is a challenge for sure, also, this going back down on weekends makes me feel like I am neglecting both flocks. And to prove my feelings right Dusty abandoned her nest in the forest and she was loaded mites. I figured it out when I came up on Sat eve to check/ top off feed and freshen waters. I opened the gate and they were crawling on my arm. (I had just cleaned and changed all nesting and bedding on Friday) So I figured it was from her hoping on the gate to get her meals and water. It was raining and that just made everything a crawling mess. So now I am dealing with it... yuck. Can't stand mites.

Forest rats have also found us and now I believe they are stealing eggs, also the gnats have been relentless. I'm sure if I had the coop set up simular to how I do down the mountain I would have a few less complaints but I feel like I am ready to go home. Mini coop is at a stall but almost done. I nudge my honey with a promise to come down soon. I will miss my solitude and will probably come back up next year- just later and leave earlier.
Oh! And grain mites came out with a vengeance. Thinking of tossing my worms and simplifying my small life.

I have to say, knowing what I know now about cooler weather location vs warmer weather locations I think I would opt for the warmer. I think the warmer weather pest are easier to deal with and I am surprised I am saying that. Think the gnats pushed me over the edge... maybe it was the mites and the rain :sick oh Noa! It was the big forest rats!!!

Kitties are yet one more challenge and form of guilt. Kahili is barely friendly. She needs more meds and KHS is in talks with a feral cat group to see who is going to help her. Meanwhile her cough came back 😒 and because I am an idiot... I signed up for a mass trap/spay/neuter program this is going to go out in mass and capture as many feral cats as possible and get them fixed to do a mass feline control. They -of course- are not making it to my side of the isle and certainly not up Koke'e so I'm thinking I can fill 10-20 traps to help out. That is absolutely nothing in the big scheme of things... but it beats doing nothing.
And then... lol. I volunteered to care for tiny kittens for KHS. With a preference for bottle feed or high maintenance.

What did I do with my flock this week? Not enough. I do plan to take my pretty new chainsaw out in the forest and cut some 5" Dia X 5' logs for my new coop and old run so we can head down the hill soon. Where I will be able to get back into my/ our routine.
That will mean possibly placing Forest and Kahili into the care of others and taking on my next kitty chapter.

I did manage to get my morning hike/walk in after a stationary weekend with pasta. That kind of put everything in perspective and all seems managable and kind of fun and easy.

Young man who was thinking of taking my hens has gone quiet. I'm sure he will figure it all out.
You folks have a nice day!!! 🌈💜💙💚💛🧡💕🐓🐓🐓
Haha I have cured myself of ever wanting a lab too! 😆 He’s really quite lucky he’s so cute!

I am now done with pet sitting—YAY—and am on a little vacation of my own and it’s lovely! We are camping up in the Sierra Nevada’s north of Tahoe and last night it rained a bunch!! We haven’t seen real rain in over 200 days in Sac, so the rain was a welcome sight! Also helped me sleep really soundly! Today has been sunny and 55 degrees and I’m in heaven!

You sound a lot like me! Taking on too much because you love animals and want to help. Forest kitty is so precious and it would be hard to say no to cute little kitties! I have a hard time saying no to things like animals and kids 😆

I can’t believe I miss my chickens more than my dogs 😆😆
