What did you do with your flock today?

Good evening! It’s almost the end of another way too short weekend! It was a weird day today for the chickens…Betty laid her egg much earlier than I expected and sat in the box for awhile and had me worried she was already going broody! Luckily by 11 or so she was out and about with everyone :) I got lap visits from three of my chickens that NEVER voluntarily visit me, and Brad even climbed up to sit on my chest like Puff likes to do 😳 I will know they’re plotting something serious the day Mumble decides to visit me on her own 😆😆 she is so skittish!

Newbell got her next round of meds and I feel like her crop felt much more normal and squishy today! It still looks bigger than normal but not tight like a filled balloon 🤞🏻🤞🏻 I’m getting better at using needles for meds but I still hate it 😆

Sun is going down at 4:30…blah! Gonna be dark soon!!
I’m glad she’s getting better! Hopefully they keep working.

Aloha all and happy Aloha Saturday!
We have been working on resetting the arbor for the garden this last week. When I say we, I mean 99% DH and he has been doing a great job. We got the new footing poured on Thursday, and that part was a we thing. Curing yesterday and today and we will reinstall tomorrow. Part of a needed garden/chicken run refresh.
Flock has been lovely and starting to kick back in with the egg production after mountains low light, move and molt hiatus. It is wonderful to collect beautiful clean eggs after the mountains muddy eggs. DEFINITELY a plus for the dry sandy area I live in. New nest boxes are a treat too! Chickens being beautiful as they moonscape the front yard. Spider always wonderful with asking me to lift rocks for bugs- for his girls. Such a fantastic boy ♡♡♡

Settling back into the run in the eves, filling their crops and discussing hierarchy never gets old for me. Don't know what it is about chickens starting out or ending their day that I find so enchanting. Don't think I am alone with that on this site.View attachment 2889561
Last batch of littles getting big. No desire to do another hatch at the moment. Want to swim in eggs of a bit.View attachment 2889564
My pal has not come by to pick up her chicks like we had scheduled and it make a very fun crowded house. Very enjoyable batch.View attachment 2889570View attachment 2889571
I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable weekend! Aloha all!
Ahhh I love seeing all your chickens!! Spider is beautiful 😍 you have so many pretty babies running around and they all look very happy!

I agree that first thing in the morning and a bit before bedtime are the best times to sit with them and enjoy all their social chatter and activity. They’re so entertaining and interesting 😍 I’m not sure why it’s so enjoyable but it just is!

Okay…so Betty might be broody after all…at bed time she went to the nest box and won’t leave 😣 Should I take her out in the morning and close the coop door so she can’t go back in? Poor thing seems very focused and annoyed…I thought it might take a bit more time laying before she went broody!!

I had two young silkie pullets go seriously broody this Fall they had only been laying a couple of months, I threw 4 eggs under the one and she hatched them all, the chicks will be 4 weeks on Thursday.

The other silkie stayed broody the whole time the other sat on her eggs. Once the eggs hatched the other broodie stopped being broody 😆. She hasn't started laying again though.

A third silkie had no interest in being broody has had laid an egg a day as normal through her sisters' brooding... Crazy chickens.

Haha, solidarity in the chicken ranks! I love that :) Like she was sympathy brooding…or felt she needed to compete, “if she can be broody, so can I!” 😁

I had hoped seeing Betty lay eggs would make the others want to join, but nope! Crazy chickens is right! 😆

Not so lucky. I am always amazed at how young some go broody.
