What did you do with your flock today?

Your home area is just gorgeous!!!
Thank you! My garden is my sanity...lol.
It's currently 6:30 am here. Yesterday was busy with the critter adjustments. Got some basic yard work in, rode down with DH and the rode my scooter back up so I could have it for cheep up and downs. Man it seemed so slow after the motorcycle- and I ride slow on the bigger bike but I felt at a walk when I started up the mountain with the scooter. Not exactly sure how long it took me but I'd guess about 45 minutes back up.
I grabbed some "Mochi snacks", star fruit and papaya from our trees for me and the chooks and cut up a ☆ for the chooks before I walked back in the house.
I was tired last night from my busy day but managed the movie Grey Man (?) W/ Ryan Gosling. Very action packed but enjoyable even for a non action gal such as myself. Still got to bed early and up super early with the cats sleeping on top of me, scratching, meowing... :barnie looking forward to day 3 when I can just leave a window open for them to go in and out.
Forest of course is in his element here and escaped out the door yesterday, ran around like a bandit, came back to eat, snuggle, purr and nap and then zipped back out again. This is his stomping grounds, he owns this place and is happier than his usual happy self, well all are. Mochi my sight impared baby is not thrilled with the new smells and items in places he does not know but right now Forest has him engaged in a great game of attack and Mochi is holding his own well. Stopping in to check with me, get a reassuring scratch and purr and then back off to hunt Forest, get a snack or find a new smell.
K. Off to say a second good morning to the chooks. I've got another busy day ahead.
Hope all enjoy their day, their flocks, good health and family in what ever form it takes today ♡View attachment 3198185
It is an old wok.😃 I liked how it makes my stump look a little like a giant mushroom.
Your kitties are all so pretty!
Joey is moving out and getting a bachelor pad! I've had it with him being a bootyhead to me. I can't monitor and tend to the babies without watching to see what he is doing...either coming up to get me or pickin on others. He's my oldest...I know I screwed up but my plans definitely changed I'm afraid 2 weeks too late so that meant his hatchmates were already gone.
Anyways...I'm gonna be the old small coop with 4' run extension I made for it behind the big run. This will let him see the others but not be able to harass them or me!
It will get less sun as the run and coop will shade it during hottest part or the day.
Red area on the right is where the 2nd pic of small coop will go.

Such a pretty coop! I like your idea for dealing with him and his coop will look good there too❤️

A neighbor brought me a big ol golden barrel cactus today so I got my daughters help planting it.
We had good rain today...our wash filled up completely so our trees got a good deep soaking.

And while the ground was wet, I went and dug up some baby hedgehog cactus that were growing in our parking area. The gravel there makes a good cactus nursery. They went into pots and will get planted in better spots once they recover.
Checked on my dwarfs and they were having a good ol'time.

Rain always makes me feel so happy ...think the birds were feeling the same😊 Wished I'd gotten pictures of the ducks during the rain...I could just barely see them from the porch... they were running in and out of the rain, flapping their wings and having a fine little party.
I've got such a long to do list right now...but I think tomorrow will have to be spent raking up mesquite pods. The rain pulled em down all over and I don't want the horse to colic. We're down to just one horse now and she needs her people time. I had to confine her to her paddock today because of all the pods that fell. Poor baby.

Oh my goodness what a time! I love the rain too. It refreshes my soul I'm sure of it.
The blue of the coop makes an excellent photo backdrop for your colorful birds. You are a genius lol.

We have Kiawe here. A close cousin of your mesquite I'd imagine. We have a few trees overhanging our pasture and the horses are quick to gobble them up. I worry more about the sand they pick up while collecting their treasures.

Have you ever heard or thought of or know of anyone making flower from the beans? I hear it is good for you and the bean (I've tasted) is sweet.

Sorry you are down to one pony ☹ that rough.
Anyways, glad you got a good rain and all enjoyed- and you shared ♡

Gorgeous babies!!!
And u got a good rain too!
Jealous!

Went out to check on the chickens, and here comes my Rottweiler, Isa (pronounced Esa). I wasn’t too worried about her, unlike my Husky. We had some rescue kittens when she was younger and she just loved watching them. So I decided to pull up a chair and set out there with her and the chickens. She has done GREAT! She is more interested in the chipmunks that have been terrorizing the property. Particularly the old race car frame by the coop….

In small amounts mesquites ok for the horses...but there's too much down right now for safe eating and it's soaked, so mold and fungus can start growing in it.

We've been lucky on sand...I've always worried about that, but have never had it happen. Knock on wood.

My youngest likes to collect the beans and make flour from them. She only does about a coffee cans worth of flour because it needs to be stored in the freezer. The flours flavor and smell changes if you don't freeze it. We use our dehydrator to dry them and it's possible we're not quite getting all the moisture out...but others I've talked to have the same problem. It makes the best nutty flavored pancakes though. There's a group here that teaches people how to harvest and process the pods and will grind them for a fee.

I miss when we had three horses. Well, two horses and a mini horse. But we lost our appaloosa, Little Man, to cancer not too long ago. He was 24. The vet came to our house and everyone got the chance to say their goodbyes. Around the same time we lost our mini ChooChi to colic technically...but she got kicked in the jaw and it broke. We got her healed up and she survived, but she started to colic frequently. She couldn't chew quite right after. We tried keeping her on alfalfa pellets, but we had to keep her separate and alone and carefully rake all mesquite out of her pen...no treats. She was miserable and there were no rehoming options that would improve her life. So her last colic we had her put to sleep.

I'm thinking we'll find our last horse, Jazzy, a new home once the kids have moved out, which might happen in the next year. I'm not sure I'll be able to properly care for her anymore. Time will tell though. I might be able to.

Our remaining horse, Jazzy. She's also the one that broke ChooChi's jaw.

Even my horses all had spots...lol.

Wow! Your horses are beautiful. Sorry for your losses. No easy thing with the big animals 💔
Jazzy is a stunner, how old?? I'm into spotted horses too. Hombre is a Pintaloosa and I love his butt.

Your kids are running out of the house lol. Good thing you have the birds to distract you and keep your mind busy.

Interesting about you making flour already! If I go into the Kiawe forest that we have in spots I can collect a lot of beans but not sure what to do after that lol. Pancakes huh? 🤔

Good morning gang!
Did a little coop improvements for the chooks yesterday. I am having a chicken oddity or phenomenon. My chickens are all deciding to hang out in the trailer coop. Just weird. My chickens have never, ever hung out in a coop and there they all were yesterday, roosting, scratching and having a good time. Very relaxed and happy. Total head scratcher for me.
I figured maybe the run was a little too rough for their feet with all.of the small branches so I raked them all up last eve but chooks were at top level with the roughest stuff just fine. Sillies for sure.

Not letting anyone free range yet. Maybe this eve. My mornings walk got cut short by 2 sweet dogs wandering the hood. Got a 1/4 mile and neighbors dogs started going off, ran back and had one of the wanderers trying to get on our front lanai and the other young pup curious but not being a problem around the run fenceline. So, more and extra yard work today and staying close to make sure puppies are not a threat.
