What did you do with your flock today?

I have 2 hens.
Oh dark B's yum
What predators are on Kauai, other than human and dog?
Mostly just stupid humans with dogs 🤣🤣😭😭😭
I guess you could add pigs and owls, not Pueo but the imported barn... and maybe a hungry feral cat... I have seen that happen, certainly around feral chicks. Not around a healthy functioning flock though. No doubt about it we are absolutely lucky.

Yes, welcome back @ChicksnMore ! So good to see you chime in again. Bet it is great to be home after three weeks of wanderlust... or is it lol?
Really sorry about your babies 😥 that is just rough :hugs it is really tricky taking care of our babies obviously. Sounds like your caretaker really tried. Bet your gang is happy mom is home.
Good news Billy is ok ♡ awesome stump monkey!

Ditto bout the DH! Sort of how I got the 2 hatches right now that are staggered lol

Our kids are all grown up so I really have no excuse bout the clothes...I just got so distracted by literally everything and I end up half doing it all cause I just can't stay focused and keep on task since my health went down hill. So hard to believe I used to be the queen of multi-tasking!!!
🤣 :gig :lau Oh I love it! I get the distracted thing too! I pick up one thing and walk to another room and start something else because I seen something that told me “oh that needs done too” and then I remember I started something else. And it just goes on and on. I haven’t ever been a very good multitasker (I know, says the lady with 6 kids, 18 chickens and now 4 ducks, a Rottweiler that is about to have puppies). Gosh, writing that out sounds so much more than in my head. But I work way better under pressure. Like being busy at work or if I have to meet a deadline.

Well, we're safely home. We got in late last night. It is good to be home!❤️

My house is thick with dust, two of my doves died and two chickens while I was gone. I lost Lunatwo and Lunatoc, Marshmellow and Granny Weatherwax. I checked everyone by flashlight last night and saw the doves cage had almost no food at all. I'm so so sad about the doves. They're the gentlest soul's. My friend had called and told me when it happened and I refused to think about it, but now I'm home and can process it. Granny and Marshmallow were old...granny was ancient and Marshmallow was nearly featherless and deeply tired when I got him. He looked fully recovered, but I'm not shocked by him passing. But the doves!
Ugh.
I made a map showing every animal and food store, water, plants etc. But it is a lot of daily work and I was gone a long time. He forgot them once too often.
Anyways...I know my friend tried hard and overall everything looks good.
And Schultz is alive and looks well...he was the one I was worried about.

A lady who bought some birds from me before called while I was gone and wants more birds. So I set up the incubator last night and brought in something like 16 eggs from one of the coops. But the humidity wasn't rising so I plugged in the other incubator and will have to take a closer look at the one.

Hubby was flooding the indoor pond while I was gone and not noticing so there's some bad damage to our floor. Poor hubby was trying to be helpful and refilled it this morning before work...I walked past the giant spreading puddle and thought omg...lol.

Our duck Peeky decided a late in the year nest would be a good idea so she's gone broody...no idea how many eggs she has under her but boy she looks happy 🤣

Todays going to be busy busy busy. I have tons of pictures to share but haven't really looked at them myself yet. We had a problem with my oldests 14 yr old dog while we were at Mammoth Lake, so we never actually made it into Yosemite Valley. 😭 On the good side, they have an amazing vet in Mammoth and Billy is just fine now. I had no idea that the change in altitude can be hard on old dogs. He had four seizures on Sunday and we thought for sure we were going to lose him. We're all so happy he's ok and waggy tailed again.

Heres my youngest playing monkey in the forest at Mammoth.View attachment 3303214
I’m sorry for your losses. That has to be hard. There seems a like there is a lot going on for you! Im glad that Schultz is doing good though! That is a big plus! And I’m also happy to hear the old guy is doing well too!

So…today turned out to be sunny and beautiful! I decided to put one tarp up for a wind breaker. I want to put another up but I have to put some stuff away before I can use another tarp. Anyway….while I was out there, I wasn’t paying attention to the number of chickens. So when I heard a clicking coming from inside the coop I was excited! As I knew it was the egg song. :wee:yesss: So I went in to look around for an egg because there wasn’t any in the boxes. While in there Marble, Cockoo Maran, came back in. She inspected boxes, as I could tell that she has been in 2, or another was looking to lay also. She hoped in one and got comfortable. I did some chores around outside so I could be there if she did it again. Well she hoped out of the coop again and I was thinking, I won’t see an egg til tomorrow probably. But NOPE in thebox was a brown egg! ❤️ But while she was in the box I noticed my Brown Leghorn, Lilo, came in and was interested in the boxes but sure enough I was right, she wanted the box Marble was in. And Lilo laid and egg! She carried on and on with her song! The rooster even chimed in with some crows! ❤️ Oh it was so exciting!

On another note, my ducks are matting and I’m not sure how to take that as I thought they were seasonal. But since @ChicksnMore has a duck making a nest…maybe it’s possible for my hens to lay eggs still this year. They are about the same age as the chickens.

Whoohoo! GO GIRLS!!!

@FBMcrazy8 goats and horses really do great together. We never had pygmy goats but we did have a couple Nigerian dwarfs and they did great with the horses. I worried that the one boy goat with huge horns would accidentally hurt a horse but it never happened. Our horses did accidentally kill a chicken once by stepping on it, and one mare broke another mares jaw when an excited stray spooked them (she was spinning and trying to kick the dog)...but overall our horses peacefully shared space with big n small goats, chickens, ducks, geese, dogs etc.
Congratulations on the new ducks and the pen...your new babies are going to be sooo happy in there!

@kurby22 Aaaaa! NoHope is to die for! Such a beautiful sweetheart 😍

@PopoMyers beautiful chickens and I'm so jealous of your Alaska cruise ❤️. I told my husband I'd love to move to Alaska and we ended up in Arizona 🤣. I think all he heard was the first and last a's!

@Gammas Bearded Babies you've gotten so much good advice so I'm just going to wish you luck with Joey. He is one handsome boy. Just beautiful ❤️

@TropicalBabies I love your rooster flock❤️. Ive never had one n think it's time I do. Now where to put it.....🤔
So glad to have you back!! I’m so sorry to hear you lost your birds though. :-( Good bird help is really hard to find—even if you know they did their best they won’t be able to do the things we would do if we were home! I hope you are able to get things settled down now that your home and you can properly grieve your doves 😢 I’m glad that Schultz is okay though!! ❤️❤️❤️
