What did you do with your flock today?

I love Seattle too but I suspect I'd be bored with out land, garden and animals like I have now. Maybe beach combing could fill my time
There is a lot to do recreationally. We don't like to visit Seattle unless it's to the International District in the daytime for dim sum and restock my Chinese pantry groceries. We love it here on Kitsap. I can have chickens, garden, enjoy the clean air (except in the summer when wildfire smoke fills the air), and am close to fishing, crabbing, clams, oysters, etc. If I did snow sports, that's also relatively close. You must have a lot of land, now. We have less than an acre, but it's more than enough to manage. This morning's view from my bed:

He is a passive sweetheart and i enjoy him but not the extra crow 😖 2 boys is enough ♡♡
My second cockerel is crowing, but funny thing, the first one's crow is cracking and high pitched now. Do you have the feral natives around? I remember them crowing at all hours, even night, at my brother's in Wailua. His dog will catch and eat them if they venture near.

We have maybe 1" of stuck snow, enough to make the trees look pretty and blanket the ground. Other areas got 5" or more, like Poulsbo, Lynnwood, and of course Hood Canal areas. Enjoy some warmth for me, you too, @TropicalBabies .

He is in one of the lower priced areas of city urban areas. For comparison, median house prices, Oct 2022, Tacoma 465K, Kitsap 511K, Seattle 865K.

With the recent law (un) enforcement policies, probably more so than when you were here. It's getting so bad. Lots of stolen vehicles. The Amazon delivery truck was stolen in my little town! Shoplifting is brazen, because they know the store employees cannot chase them down. Police can't chase vehicles in town. WTH!
Yup, it would have gotten worse. When I lived in Lakewood, the Walmart was right down the street from me. Which I didn’t like going to that Walmart anyway but an employee was shot in the parking lot when she was leaving to go home. AND the guy that shot her, was just released from prison for a violent crime. I don’t remember the crime anymore that he was charged with I just remember thinking how the h-e-double hockey sticks did he get out!!! AND then there was a lady that went all bat 🤬 crazy on post. She was military and having an affair with military husband. Well husband called it off with her. She went to the house…on post…shot her in bed and then shot him in the shower. Took THEIR baby to Lowe’s to buy acid to put on the bodies. She was caught when she went back. I was also there when the Lakewood police department lost several officers at the Starbucks. I mean there was a LOT of crimes I remember. But these kinds of things just don’t happen around here. But honestly, even with all that, I still miss that place and I honestly went about my day without fear. I just got into a habit that I still do to this day, is lock your door as soon as you shut the door behind you.

Yes, we have hundreds of feral roos. Very helpful for me to have domestic roos as the ferals would try come steal or more likely move in. Cute untill it is not. Don't want feral babies.

Here is a link for the zeolite we can get in the US. I buy the one for horse stalls. Same ingredient, just more economical than the one labeled Sweet Coop. Works great, I sprinkle heavily on top added shavings, after cleaning out poops. Won't hurt if it gets eaten, but granules are tiny. You know, chickens will try to eat anything interesting. They do love styrofoam, and I have chased them down to take it from them. Yeah, in my condition, not a pretty sight. :barnie That was before DH put the fenced ranging area in.
Peggy stole a lit cigarette from my mom and led us on a merry dance round the garden to retrieve it, the first time they met :lau

That looks a good product too, it's not available here unfortunately. I do use zeolite in my fish tanks though to keep nitrates down, it's a great detoxifying agent.

What a terrific opportunity and how lucky for us to be able to glean all that valuable info. I now have a few of those suggestions in my shopping cart cuz they sound so yummy and smart to have on hand. Thank you!!!

I think we are all experiencing that. It is disheartening but lucky us, in the US we have managed to stave off a lot of the bad effects due to covid & the war. Hard not to be worried and hard not to complain but we have it much better than most.
Which ones are you planning on giving a go, @tropical Babies? Just out of interest?

I'm in Arizona but used to live in Washington. I love the state. I have a brother, nephew and sister in law in Seattle still, and my mother, sister, another brother and a niece and nephew in Spokane. My Seattle nephew just bought his first house there and it was expensive! Well, he's in Tacoma...but ya, that whole area is high.

What a wonderful experience!
Maybe split the difference and live in Moses Lake or Ellensburg! You could have the land but be driving distance to Seattle :-D

Got this from a neighbor's empty egg carton. No wonder eggs can be as high as $8.50/dz. So thankful the girls keep me supplied.

I sold a dozen for $5. They were shocked by the price but I have seen that price listed in peoples front yard. You go to the grocery store and buy free range eggs you’re looking at $6 or more.

It makes since to have them priced this way cause they are well cared for and what food costs are and what have you. I let my sister have a dozen cause she gives me her egg shells she gets from the store. And I let my mom have some just as long as I get my carton and shells back too.
