Does anyone remember Super Chicken?! The creator definitely grew up on a farm or had a flock in their backyard. Probably had a Ferdy ♡

He's very good at letting me know when things are amiss. I think chickens are just as intelligent as other household pets. I read a study which concluded chickens have the intelligence of an average three year old and that they can count! I can well believe it.

@Gammas Bearded Babies to get back to the fly troubles and solutions I am working on.

I bought an 18 envelope bait station refill for $40 from Amazon. It is (I think) $3.60 for one envelope here... so made sense as this is tried and true for me and easy. Love easy sometimes. I have 2 stations but made my first additional station. Hope it works so I can make more. The flies are ridiculous right now.

I drilled 3 holes on each side and burned 2 in the top so I could thread some tie wire through to make my hanger. If I works to capture flies I will make more as I have the easy bait. Some people use a vinegar, sugar, water mix. I had tried several versions of it with no luck at home but at the pasture it worked great.
While I was on my hole burning mood I made a cover for my chicken run cameras. Basically cutting a plastic tub in half, burning mounting holes and them prime and paint black for glare.

Works perfect so take that chickens!

Hopefully it will work well. I'm dreading fly season here. I have no idea why but we always have so many flies. We had the problem before the chickens. Let me know if the half bucket technique works.

Same here. When I used to come visit I was appalled at the flies on AJ's screens among other large bugs , rat holes in the screens etc.
I rescreened and repaired her frames along with called the exterminators and all forms of bug people.
Now I laugh when "my" chickens get blamed for the flies. I mean, they don't help but once again, I am the only one in the solution more than complaint. Heck, they are all around the rotting fruit next door even in the next few towns over. My chickens are very powerful.
Hoping the additional traps work so when someone wants to complain I can just point to my multiple traps. Plus last time we got a fly infestation (seems after the big rains) the 2 traps I had worked great.

Ugh on flies. I blame heat and moisture. I like your home made fly trap Does that bait smell to high heaven or is it not too bad?


Didn't get much done at all today. Made my rounds and said hi to everyone. Picked a few yellowing leaves and weeds from the garden to spread around to the birds. Noticed I need to make a feed store run. Watered some seedlings, made more sauerkraut and did the daily indoor chores. Had the house to myself for a bit today and enjoyed some quiet time planning my youngest bday present. It was a relaxing day.

your home made fly trap Does that bait smell to high heaven or is it not too bad?

The bait itself is not too bad. It is when the dead flies start their decay that it can smell bad. These traps work great

I just empty the stink contents into a big can and put out on rubbish pickup day or dig a deepish hole.
New trap is not a hit yet but sometimes it takes a few days to get going. I have a lot of those cat treat containers as I have been collecting them for a bit in hopes for a good use. The tall square style makes good for storing. So still remaining hopeful. May have to cut a V instead of drill a puka.
