What did you do with your flock today?

It took some chasing but I got her. She wasn’t going without a fight. Even the picture of her butt isn’t the greatest. But it is WAY better today.

Ear infections in chickens aren't usually contagious as far as I'm aware but it's wise to check the rest of the flock just in case.

Sound like it's a middle or outer ear infection if there's visible pus and given her symptoms so it should respond well to antibiotics. The only problem is which to use. If you have baytril on hand you could start her on that and see if it helps any? It is a very potent, very broad spectrum antibiotic. If not, see if your vet will sensitivity test some pus/discharge.

if you can stomach watching a vet remove pus and irrigate a chicken ear, give this a watch:

It's pretty graphic if you're at all of a sensitive disposition. Don't say I didn't warn anyone!
Looks like bumblefoot pus! That chicken sure looks much happier. What a cutie!

We have some tall huckleberry bushes, and the chooks love to jump for those, too. Quite entertaining 🙂
I need something like this for them. It would be great exercise for them too. I had butterfly bushes in there cause I read multiple times that it would survive chickens….LIE!!! I wanted them to be able to eat some of the bugs that would be attracted to it. Instead they destroyed them..

Hardly anything survives chickens. If they don't eat it, it'll get scratched to smithereens. I did have some poppies that were left alone, and actually bloomed along the run fence. Maybe it was the latex that deterred them. My chooks do not like slimy, stick to your beak things like larger slugs and bananas. I have to cage the hostas come spring, but removed them recently so that they could weed and find the apple maggot larvae in the soil, which they happily obliged. Maybe hang an apple up above their reach?

I gave Molly her first dose of Baytril. She's been really vocal and active today, so I think she's already feeling better even without the rest of the infection cleared up.

In other news, The Royals have been getting along really well. They've been non-stop preening each other and then the other day Duchess laid an egg. At one point they were both cuddling in the nest together. They're going to need a bigger basket, lol.

They're so sweet. Before I got Duchess I couldn't decide whether to look for a boy so they could partner up, or a girl so they could just be friends, but it looks like I ended up getting the best of both worlds. <3

This is what he does everytime i take him outside. I only got a little video of him running cause i tried to walk fast so he didn’t run so far. But he is standing proud with the girls.

@FBM I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with frostbite. I hope it isn't too severe.
You've got a nice flock!
