What did you do with your flock today?

See me as older mine are not pets only thing named is Smudge They are very well treated my working life I did research and was a DVM..
Now I have like 45 birds total 8 have limited life here. Gave them to a friend but 3 are cockerel and will be sold next week

I love the silvers or lavender of your chooks. Absolutely stunning. I am thrilled they are good boys ♡♡♡♡
Poor little Elsafish. I'm looking forward to the flock intro for her. I'm not a fan of intro and isolation but know it is that necessary evil (if you will).
How the coyote issue? 😬😬😬
Thank you! I too love their colors 😍 They look so calm…something about cool colors I’m drawn to ❤️

Well Elsafish decided that she was going to introduce herself today so fingers crossed she’s okay to have around the others 😩 I brought her outside today because it was beautiful and I felt bad she hasn’t been outside since I got her, and placed her inside one of those soft sided dog crates that has no bottom and a screened top. Then I set about doing chicken and quail chores. We decided to extend the chicken run so we bought more fence and pavers and bird netting and we’re busy putting all that up and I turned around and she wasn’t in the crate! 🤦🏼‍♀️ I start looking all around the yard, and found her happily dust bathing in the chicken run with the silkies…ugh! She’s been dusted for mites and I’ve had her on some meds for the rattle in her breathing, and by the time I found her I figured it was too late to go back inside with her. She spent a good half hour dust bathing and then foraged to her hearts content. She could have cared less for the other chickens and I had the boys blocked off, and everyone seemed to be chill about her. She also squatted for me yesterday! So I’m thinking she is close to laying age, so that’s fun! She’s now in the little brooder coop outside and happily being a chicken. Sighhh isn’t that just how it goes? Despite your best intentions? Like one of my kids haha.

Also Miss Betty has been very committed to being broody so I have her some of the big ladies eggs to sit on…hoping puff or fluff succeeds in making her a mommy! Will candle them at Day 10 and see if there’s a chance. But I also think she’s been stealing eggs cuz her brood seems to get bigger every day! I even found Miss Fuzzy helping out today. No lie, silkies are serious broodies! 😍

Happy Aloha Friday all. In my house it is also known as "French toast Friday" . Today, had a little Hawaiin bread upgrade as I shared eggs and had Hwn bread shared in return. DHs eyes are bigger than his opu but he managed lol. No calories or cholesterol in that lolView attachment 2990766

That French toast looks AMAZING 🤤 He is all legs, what a pretty boy!

And that sunset is everything!! Jealous! 😍

Three of my EE pullets (my 3 favorites, no less) have been following me everywhere lately. And when I squat down sorta at their level, they even let me pet them a little. This really makes me smile. Plus it's been sunny and much wsrmer for a few days...and that makes all of us happy.
The sun puts everyone in a generous mood during winter and spring! I love how everything feels lighter and fresh and uplifting after the cloudy gloominess of winter. I live for the two and half months where I enjoy the sun instead of despising it and it’s miserable heat 😆 Glad you get to enjoy some nice weather!!

Many of mine will be food too. But I figure (like you) i should give them a good life while they're here. Better life for them isn't just for them.....it makes them healthier all around....which is good for us too.

Also, I'm very curious about your culling method. As we're nearing that stage of our chicken journey in the next several months, I'm starting to try to figure out how were going to handle that whole process.

I'm so happy that your new lady fit herself into the flock so seamlessly!

I'm very curious about this term I've heard many times before of "stealing eggs", but never really understood. Do you mean other birds are laying in her nesting box? I can't imagine a chicken picking up an egg and taking it to her nest. Inquiring minds want to know. 😁

Today I decided I was gonna get actually good photos of my birds opposed to the blurry, eye shut, headshake type ones I usually get Lol. And it actually worked out ok. (For the most part)

All until this epic failure.
