What did you do with your flock today?

I spent some time today with the flock after not really seeing much of them while I was away…and yesterday I was too exhausted to do anything. I love my birds, they’re just the best. I sat down and had 4 very large chickens sitting on or next to me within a couple mins. They are all so sweet. I am still working on the new bantam crew, that’s a definite drawback to buying pullets…I did not get to spend a bunch of time with them when they were babies and they’re definitely less people needy. I will wear them down eventually

I love the way Elinor looks so disapproving at me. And Coco has this nice sweet look…some chickens have the best stares I also got a solid cache of eggs today! The ladies are finally paying rent hehe.

I also tried to handle the new Olandsks, and you can tell that she was NOT into it Like being held hostage haha. So fun, all of them

Yes, they each have 2 eggs I’ve let them sit on and the other ladies keep dropping off more of them every day! So I marked the ones they have and take all the new ones. The Cochin ladies seem to think that they must lay with Betty and Fuzzy it’s quite the crowded box during the day!

I don't think you will have any troubles sticking babies under then. As long as they stay sitting. Just keep an eye on them after in case they reject them. They can peck them to death. You'll know fairly soon after sneaking them under.

He is beautiful and so sweet .. The hatch of 9 only had 3 roos in it .. If I can match that with the 13 .. Green layers here go very nicely

Working today…errr, sort of working today. I might be hanging out with my Olandsk Dwarf hens. She’s the lead hen and very sassy! But after a bit she settled in and let me pet her I’m determined to win them over!

Today my dad and I started working on building the new aviary. We had a late start, so only wood got cut. I’m hoping to go out early to start painting it, but I’m not sure if that’ll happen yet. Either way, tomorrow is going to be full of painting, measuring, and more cutting. I’m hoping this thing will be done by Monday.

I got to spend lots of sun time with the birds. Both of the babies got turns sitting on my lap, but neither really cared. Cher didn’t want to be away from Sonny, and Sonny prefers to sit on my shoulder, where my hands can’t get her. XD
Sonny did end up living up to her name and sunbathed on me. <3 her tiny little neck feathers spiked up everywhere. It was adorable.

Iris also got lots of love. His foot still looks absolutely awful, but he’s been acting so much better. The past few days I haven’t been able to sit on a chair outside without him quite literally flying on my lap. Even if he wasn’t broken, he’s still wayyy too big to be doing that. For a bird his size, he’s really fast. Took me a few tries to get him off of my lap and out of the chair before he jumped on my again. He’s very persistent. XD
I ended up just taking him into the sun and he fell asleep for a long time. I love sitting with him, but man, he always looks and feels really dead whenever he sunbathes. XD

I got some pics of the pigeons + babies, but I’ll have to check what I already posted.
