What did you do with your flock today?

Well CnM, you are a hard worker and if anyone can do it you can and especially with the help of your lovely daughters ♡ who seem very willing. Oh to have helpful & willing daughters... *deep dreamy sigh*** You have a great plan of attack.

I've been thinking how I will try and protect my flock if need be and I'm thinking of topping off my run with shade cloth and maybe bird netting my fenceline and any chicken wiring. If not I'll have to spring for a big roll or 2 of 1/2" welded wire. Tricky business this raising chickens etc. 😕
I really am absolutely blessed in my kids ❤️. If I could I'd keep them close forever.

I want to get you a go-pro type camera! Think that's what they're called...the kind you attach to your helmet to videotape while your moving. Bet the video from your bike would be 😍

I am going to buy one for my hubby for his Birthday! He has been wanting a GoPro and a drone for years... so GoPro it is for starts.

I was able to take the blanket off today and can hear the chicks being little happy chicks. Whew! Will put blanket back on this eve. Day 5 today.
LOVE glamping. 👇View attachment 3241749View attachment 3241761
Feeders are a hit and I feel WAY better about things. Plus I can move them in coop if need be because of weather. Yippee!

I have a question but gunna mostly aim it at @kurby22 but please anyone chime in.
I told you about my extra crower in the early mornings. I don't hear it every morning and I wonder if a hen is helping out Spider in the early morning mountain roll call cuz it is a little scary out here.
With that said, go ahead and dash my dreams. 4 months old 👇
View attachment 3241776View attachment 3241778 I don't see a boy clearly yet. 4 months old, no saddle feathers, no bleeding colors, no blotchy, no red comb or any wattles, no dorky behavior though I did see a small tiff yesterday between these 2. Maybe Spider has too tight of a ship 🤷‍♀️ But in all fairness Brahma x Ameraucana = slow to mature... and I have been fooled a time or 10 (at least lol) I have also owned 3 girls who have crowed but that was pre roo.
I have no experience with ameraucanas and limited experience with brahmas, so please take this with a grain of salt, but she looks like a pullet to me. IME all my mixed boys have had flaming red combs and male-specific coloring at about 4 weeks. Her comb looks pretty decent for a pullet (assuming it is) her age.
The crowing is a little weird, although I’ve had a handful of hens that have crowed. That said, they were usually already a few years old when they started, and they all stopped after a few days/weeks.

Whatever it ends up being, please let us know! Also I haven’t fully caught up yet, sorry if I’m repeating something someone else said. 😅
Here is Faith modeling one, two on the ready now... lolView attachment 3245189
Wow, she’s gorgeous!!!

That sounds like fun! I got my youngest one of those for Christmas one year and she had so much fun with it. She plunged it into every body of water and got some really fun video of goldfish almost kissing the camera ❤️.
I came across this with some amazing (and some boring) drone photos and thought you might enjoy it.

Yall after praying bout it and talking with my daughter I have made the decision to sell Joey...I will only keep any boys in the future til they are confirmed boys and become troublesome.
😔 😢 💔
Big hugs. I'm guessing at some point you'll find you have a rooster that never becomes troublesome❤️.

Nothing new here. I didn't get my brooder cleaned yesterday, didn't get the pond cleaned, didn't figure out what to do about the sick wild birds here....but I did get some really good family time.

Schultz is the same still and no new sickness in my beastie babies.

Today's another family day...hubby loves any and every holiday and the poor guy really doesn't get enough time to just relax with his family...so today is all his.

These guys are everywhere right now. I don't kill them, I just carry a stick to twirl their webs outta my way. It feels like it takes them two minutes to rebuild! My garden is hard to walk through right now because this year has been so good for them...I'm kinda hating it 🤣. They're good spiders to have around but I think I might bring some chickens into the garden today to clean em up for me a bit.

Hope everyone's day is 😃!

I think crowing hens are so funny.
So, you have had hens crow with a rooster in house...? 🤔 my hens quit crowing when I got boys. I mean it could be one of the hens crowing but I think that is a statement of denial 😂😂 which, in truth totally works for me...
I took a few more photos of B&C last eve. April 28th hatch. date.

It also just occurred to me that B is probably Beebee's baby... oh I loved that boy... ♡♡♡ makes since yes? He was definitely in on the action. Mater of fact this photo was taken right after he chased a few pullets through my paint tray. Try check his foot. Miss that boy greatly 😢

Ok. Well, these are the things I ponder... up here alone on a mountain.

@Gammas Bearded Babies I think that is a great idea. Just do your vetting and ask them to send you photos every so often. It will ease your heart and make a chicken friend and IMO, a body can't have too many chicken friends ♡ my boys almost always make it to great places. The trick for me is to not feel the pressure and get desperate to rehome them.

@ChicksnMore I love your spider photo with your wonderland in the background! I think spiders are terrific (with the exception of just a few) But yes, too much of a good thing can be bothersome. Some times the chickens need a snack.
Your family time sounds wonderful ♡♡♡

Chick TV has started at dusk till about 10 when all of the bugs fly into the brooder. I caught the babies sleeping early and was worried, even put corid in their water... but then sure enough they all perked up at dusk like little vampires. It was darn fun watching them.

I cleaned out the brooder and added alfalfa which was very scary at first but them became very fun. Did not cut new perch but did add a hopping stick that they seem to really like.
Think corid was a good choice as everyone seems more bouncy this morning.

Yesteday I sewed 5 bags plus putted around here, even went for a small scoot. Today I am going to try and finish sewing the last 5 feed bags I have up here. Figuring out more helpful tricks and am sewing a product that I am proud of. I'll be needing your address PM'd soon so I can send them along ♡

K. Better get my day started. I hope you all are having a good last day of your holiday weekend. Happy Labor Day all!
