What did you do with your flock today?

@TropicalBabies I quick cleaned the brooder while everyone was munching melon and grapes. It's a rubber tub sitting on an old broken parrot perch with a cut down tomato cage, topped by the top of a broken bird cage and all that topped with an old shower curtain. Doesn't that just sound appalling? 🫣

But I've used it for years and years now. I have several of the tubs, so cleaning is easy. I grab a clean one, add alfalfa, set it on the floor for a second and transfer birds, bowls etc, plop it on the perch and take the tub outside to wash.

Someday I want to get a nice brooder! But I've found this so handy that I've just kept using it. It was supposed to be a temporary brooder. :idunno

They only spend the very early days in here though.

Oh she's a sweetheart! You have a nice looking flock there!

Glad he's no worse! How's he doing today?

I went out this morning to let old Joey boy out of his bachelor pad...he immediately raised those hackles and got down in position to get me.
I ignored it cuz I had the baby cochins in my arms to bring down to be with everyone else.
There were a family of wild turkeys in my yard. Guess they were just "passing through" lol so I made sure they finally all got out of our wrought iron fence.
Then as I went to open run door to get babies settled, Joey rared up and got me good on the shin...blood and all.
I know I move slowly and I think when he is irritated, hormonal that hesitation I naturally have cause of my health is like putting a target on me for him.
It has happened with every rooster I have ever had that got to be his age or 7 months and older.
I had a conversation with myself as I walked back to house...I originally did not know I wasn't "allowed" to have roosters where we live. We've never lived in "city" before ever so a lot of new things for us here. But as God pointed out - now I know. I realize I have a problem and yet I continue in the same fashion...yet again and this is my 4th rooster I've tried with.since having chickens.
So am I gonna continue doing the same thing expecting a different result? BTW that is the definition of insanity. Or am i going to rehome him...them cuase there is now Bluey and Coco that are definite boys too.
idk
It saddens me...cuz much like @kurby22 daughter the boys steal my heart from hatch!!! I naturally bond with them...always trying NOT to!
Do I let em have some babies then rehome em?
Idk
Very frustrating...hope it gets better for you too @FBMcrazy8
Try for babies! Then you have something to remember him by! ❤️❤️ We still have Spider…the dude flaked on me so I’m back to square 1. Gonna just be patient a bit longer and wait for the right person!

I LOVE THAT! You have a creative golden artistic touch. My goodness... 😍 I would not change a thing and I bet yours is way easier to deal with than mine is. I have to be careful how it schlep it around or my back may regret it. It is pretty safe though, I'm not sure your is Forest proof lol.

Speaking of Forest... he found a friend again today.

And I have another broody! Sweet beautiful Faith went broody ♡ I'm gunna let her as I think she will make a good one. Just look at all that fluffy real estate, heck, will be able to put 20 eggs under her lol. Plus I want her to take some eggs days off. She has been laying nonstop since POL. Just Pi'i and Faith though... no one else gets to be...

Well, Spiders do seem to be the theme of the day! So, it is only fitting 🕷♡
He obviously was not a serious person and I'm glad you found out early.

I've had 4 or 5 people now that have flaked on me...but I've never had that many interested within 24 hours of listing him.
So ill be patient a while...but he was harassing EVERYONE in the flock this morning...so back to bachelor pad he goes!
It's sad when they all keep their distance from him cause he's being a bootyhead! As soon as I locked him up the older ones came on down to eat...otherwise they stay on the porch of the coop for an hour or longer everyday! The younger ones haven't learned quite as well but they are faster so he was chasing n pecking them!

Yeah it’s frustrating finding new homes for them! Especially ones that are more enthusiastic about their roles in the chicken flock. You want to be upfront about it but also know when you are the potential for him to leave goes down. I’m sorry he is making you stress and worry! I think that’s why I finally rehomed Puff…I was stressing and worrying every day and it was making having chickens much less fun and fulfilling. Good luck!! ❤️

I love this idea! I did use a tote for my brooder, but it was one of the larger ones that is like 4ft long or so. It worked for us. And when the 18 of them got too big, we moved them into a connected box brooder with plastic (the ones ppl use to cover windows with in winter ) on the bottom and wood chips in the top of that. But now that the coop is done up, I have different ideas. I may take this one from you. I know though that I can’t put mine up high like that. It would be great too though. I really like your set up though!
