What did you do with your flock today?

@kurby22 you have a rooster pen? ♡♡♡ just shove all those boys in there and let them sort themselves out lol. See who stands out and let him have a go at the ladies and so on. You have a lot of very pretty boys. I got some decent $ for my mixed breeds in the land of roosters.

Get your adds out. Mark people in your phone. I do emojis 👍👎🐥🐓🚫 so I am prepared for any repeats. Start your ground work ♡ you are in this for the long haul ♡♡♡

Oh she's a sweetheart! You have a nice looking flock there!

Glad he's no worse! How's he doing today?

I went out this morning to let old Joey boy out of his bachelor pad...he immediately raised those hackles and got down in position to get me.
I ignored it cuz I had the baby cochins in my arms to bring down to be with everyone else.
There were a family of wild turkeys in my yard. Guess they were just "passing through" lol so I made sure they finally all got out of our wrought iron fence.
Then as I went to open run door to get babies settled, Joey rared up and got me good on the shin...blood and all.
I know I move slowly and I think when he is irritated, hormonal that hesitation I naturally have cause of my health is like putting a target on me for him.
It has happened with every rooster I have ever had that got to be his age or 7 months and older.
I had a conversation with myself as I walked back to house...I originally did not know I wasn't "allowed" to have roosters where we live. We've never lived in "city" before ever so a lot of new things for us here. But as God pointed out - now I know. I realize I have a problem and yet I continue in the same fashion...yet again and this is my 4th rooster I've tried with.since having chickens.
So am I gonna continue doing the same thing expecting a different result? BTW that is the definition of insanity. Or am i going to rehome him...them cuase there is now Bluey and Coco that are definite boys too.
idk
It saddens me...cuz much like @kurby22 daughter the boys steal my heart from hatch!!! I naturally bond with them...always trying NOT to!
Do I let em have some babies then rehome em?
Idk
Very frustrating...hope it gets better for you too @FBMcrazy8
I feel your pain ... I'm not "supposed" to have roosters, either, but I have wonderful neighbors! So ... I generally have a fella or two hanging around. When the numbers go beyond what the hens can handle, I keep a Bachelor Flock - and it's BY FAR my favorite. Their antics are much more entertaining than their more sedate counterparts and the eye-candy is well worth the extra effort. I LOVE my boys!

Well, how many boys can you keep? Spider is pretty amazing and I bet your lavender orp is too. What are your reasons for keeping the others? Breeding? They are cockerels and you are still selecting? Yes, I think WE need more time 😂🤣😂 it is to sudden for us.
I don't really know where the limit is to be honest! In the big chicken run, I have Fluff )weighs almost 8 lbs!) and Emilio (bantam) and Spider and Lunch (even smaller bantam) and MAYBE Josephine/Joe. There are 12 for sure hens in that run...so the biggest issue is overusing the hens once the Polish get old enough to mate. I do have 5 more pullets waiting to be integrated in that run though, so that will make it 5:17.

In the bantam run, I have the big Orpington boy, Ruby the buff bantam, Rolly my itty bitty EE, and Bruno the OD rooster. In that run it is 4:9 but I also have 4 baby bantams (would be nice if they were all girls but highly unlikely!) now that I can add to the group in the future.

And in the "far away so I can limit their chances of getting MG" coop, I have 5 tiny boys and only 3 tiny ladies...so I need more of them but hoping I can hatch more instead of buying more. I guess time will tell!

But yes, 11 of the 14 are cockerels so it sort of depends on how they all mature! Plus my husband doesn't enjoy all the crowing Haha, oh well! He can't say no to Aria either so we will keep the faith! :)

I only let 1 boy with the flock at a time for the most part. Anytime I get 2 or three it is drama and not fair to the ladies.. or the main guy or my nerves. The stand by get nicely housed and get ready to go to their very own flocks that are hopefully bigger and better than mine. Like, mine is the bar but they are welcome to go higher and find Aria's of their own ♡. I always have a buy back policy and that may help keep them well.

@MROO I love that you love your roo pen the best and have great neighbors. That is darn terrific ♡ makes me wish for more chicken space again.

I tell ya, it was a game changer for me. I'd get repeat flakes and I swear it was to troll or maybe they were sorting their own stuff out. I am super nice but there has to be a limit and that is how I helped myself. Like if I get a 🚫🤡💩 I know they have been vetted lol and they are essentially a waste of time and I know how to proceed. My babies don't need to go to a person like that and I don't need to frustrate myself. They will pop up on any chick/egg/roo add I have in the future too. Works great for me lol

I imagine how crazy it is and to keep up with people would but nuts. We put 2 mowers on Craigslist and within seconds in posting them, we had SOO many different people “interested”. We could tell they were fake or scammers by the way they texted. I hate Craigslist but since we don’t do Facebook, it’s kind of the only way to get stuff out there. Besides auctions of course.

This would work great though to sort out when we are ready for baby chicks. And we are going to be breeding our Rottweiler in the next week or so. It will be her first litter and she is already 2. So really having a system that will help us determine if we have already talked to someone and what we thought through interaction will be really helpful.

I don't do fb either and yes, I don't reach as many good people as I would like. Eventually word of mouth gets out from the few good I gleaned from cl. I also don't post my ph number on add but take a photo of my number and post it that way. It has rid me of the "send me this code back" scams. Plus those ones are super quick to respond, like fast minutes. I still really like cl but do notice it ebbs and flows. That is what roo pens are for ♡♡♡ it buys me a little patience.

So today, dh is coming up and I am going to head down to set up and move Pi'i and her little brood to a rooster pen, clean broody box for Faith and put her in so her hatch will be safe.
That, dinner planning for my sweetie, laundry, pick up lawnmower and a few other chores. Not looking forward to the sweatbox.

@ChicksnMore how'd the family visit go?
@FBMcrazy8 how is your daughter liking being a cheerleader again?
Sorry about the cost of the wire. It will last a long time and you will be happy in the end but yeah, buying that stuff is sobering. $500 dollar eggs for sure.

We may do that next time. We just don’t like the emails coming in either. That is also annoying.
