What did you do with your flock today?

Been pretty warm here. Me and dh went for a sunset cool off ride after chores.

I did give Boo a tattoo to break up the blinding glare of her silver alien tank . Probably wil get her painted one day, but not any day soon.
Woke up @2. Muggy with dripping rain. Been going on for awhile now and sounds nice. Besides being warm, not sure why I can't sleep. Son is taking my truck and we are taking his to the shop for Trans fluid and other maintenance work. Want to catch the last hearing. That comes on @ 6am here... not sure what I forgot to do that is keeping me awake. I think it is finishing the re- potting of flowers that has me up lol. Need to finish that up...

My gal is molting and is still beautiful to me I've been picking up the feathers and giving them to bunny to make a nest for the winter

She is soooo pretty ♡♡♡ and the color or fall. Must be something around there now. We don't get color change, we barely have any deciduous trees here. Plumeria is the only tree that drops leaves that I can think of off hand . So interesting and wonderful Nice share!

White Belgian Bearded d’Anvers from a show breeder! One of her hens I’m a sucker for the cheeks and just really wanted some whites to add to my breeding group!

Your cool down ride looks like a good one! I think I’d have to pinch myself regularly if I lived with those views

I hate waking in the middle of the night with restlessness that I’m forgetting to do something, but listening to rain can be so soothing! Hope you were able to get a bit more sleep! Those flowers can wait a bit longer ;-)

Ah!!! Those cheeks!!! So these are different from the d'uccles but similar.

Yes! They are very similar to d’Uccles, but they have the naked legs you don’t like For show purposes, keeping the leg feathers clean and unbroken on d’Uccles is too much work! Personality wise they are pretty similar, although I was told the males can be saucy! I haven’t noticed that though. I have four boys and two girls And they all get along well and they are all very nice little birds. Fingers crossed I get a couple and they’re girls

Ok so broken feet feathers is a Thang! I wondered if mine had a defiency or something...especially Joey and he's a Satin. So I ordered Grubblies to help...guess they gonna enjoy it whether it helps their feathers or not.

Haha, yeah. My d'Uccle Millie looks better now, but the winter was really hard on her feathered feet! Yes, the d'Uccles breeder I talked to said that she keeps her show birds off the ground and fairly isolated in order to keep the feet feathers clean and intact! I'm sure the Grubblies will help with the quality of the feathers and I know they will love to eat them Win win!

We all know how true this is. Hubby is currently installing a taller, larger, fenced area for daytime free ranging, to protect from coyotes, and give me more peace of mind, so I don't feel the need to be present and super in guard with the flock. They will often go to the edge of the woods, where predators lurk unseen.
How many of you have changed your layouts over even a couple of years?

Oh goodness...since April of 2021 I have added four more coops, a second run, a third run, wrapped a dog kennel in hardware cloth to make into a makeshift coop/brooder, bird netting, moved the bird netting, added misting hoses, automatic doors, and SOOO many feeders and waterers I'm already making plans when the ground is softer and weather is cooler, to add more fence for another run and coop and MORE bird netting! It's never-ending additions and changes! Learning that it's worth the cost to make caring for them easier for everyone!
