What did you do with your flock today?

maybe! if they do video, I might be able to make it worth the black friday sale price.
I have Blink also, purchased on sale too and I really like them. They do photos, video, night time... 2 way speaker, easy set up. Only thing is if you want to keep easy recorded video you have to subscribe or do a thumb drive. I recorded at first but find I just check in and watch them now.

I spent some time today with my sweet Penny Pot. She watched football with me while the kids read their books. 😍 She’s just the sweetest girl that would be content to sit on me or near me all day if I let her!

Fed and watered everyone but was pretty lazy otherwise—kids had a bye weekend for soccer so I got to be lazy and sleep in! Also got all of my shipped eggs properly labeled and candled to mark air cells and turned on the turner after two days of rest. Very happy with the air cells and condition of the eggs so fingers crossed I get at least 3-4 to hatch! ❤️

Also I just had to share this silly picture of my chickens in their coop tonight. All the dark spots are feathers not tons of poop I swear :) My OCD can’t handle their lack of distribution across the roosts!! 😆

You have the cutest kids ♡♡♡ LOVE good readers and (yippee!) slow mornings. Nice to savor all that you have worked for up to that point. Nice to catch your breath ♡♡♡
Silly, silly Penny Pot . Such spoiled babies in the best of ways.
I feel your feather pain. Our perfectly mowed lawn looks rather tacky thanks to many mini molts. Looking forward to my fresh beauties... soon right?

I'm hoping you have a successful hatch. Time for some more super awesome hatch news. You reminded me I need to candle. Six more days till my last hatch of the year.
Went to let the chickens out and the cockerel came out first. Which he has been trying to establish with the girls for a long time now. And they did not want to leave the coop. I even opened my door for them. Finally Lilo, my brown leghorn, comes out. He grabs her neck feathers and she squats down for him. He tried a few others cause after that they all came out. But he didn’t try as hard as he normally does. So maybe he will relax some now that some girls are ready. We are going to put the top on for the nest boxes, which we haven’t done yet. We put it together and left that as it was because we needed them in there and it was going to be a while before we needed it on there. And hopefully we will be working on the duck coop today was well.

Also while out in the coop today, I opened the door and one hen runs out before I could get the door shut. So I opened it to get her back in and more come out. It took a while to get them back in but I got it.
Keep a can of scratch handy. If you let them out toss scratch inside the run. Make it a thing.... it makes it waaay easier to control your flock with bribes as oppose to wrangling a prey animal.

It will get better with your roo. My old bats are probably still roosting in the coop now not wanting to be mated. First one out gets the worst. Smart girls. Yep. You had better get that nest box together and all comfy. Sounds like any minute you will be getting a bunch of eggs if you have not already.

Oh gosh my back is soooo sore today. Also did not want to do my ultra early wake this morning, slept in till 6ish.
Lots to do today, it is a good day!

One of my pullets hopped the fence this morning. Letting her back into the yard I turn and see almost my whole flock freeranging and think **gulp** It is too big.
My old girls are hanging in there perfectly fine, all still laying every so often. That is the one thing I did not account for, my old girls living such long lives. Welp. The old biddies have earned their stay plus I don't want to hurt their chicken feelings by rehoming them, so they stay... I think my only solution is to move to a bigger property 🤔🤣🤣🤣

Sounds like your only option!! Listen to your body, it’s definitely saying “I’m tired!” Sounds like today needs to be a”sit and enjoy” your large flock of beautiful chickens and a nice beverage! 🍹

Yeah I tried the scratch and cracked corn. It worked yesterday. And it kind of worked today but some I know where laughing at me saying “oh your so cute”. 🤦‍♀️ I wouldn’t have minded since they stay pretty close to the coop but there have been a lot of hawks flying around.

I did get the top of the nest boxes done today. I will be in town tomorrow so gonna get some comfy stuff for inside of it. No eggs yet. I have been watching the last week.

We also got the duck coop almost done!! I’m so excited! It’s so crazy close now! We added some of the back wall, we are adding a door in the middle. And then we got all the fencing up. We will just have to add the skirt in the areas felt for that and the front of the coop. Of course the pond will need to be cleaned and new water added. I didn’t want to do it yet because I don’t really know how soon I can get the ducks. We considered doing it right after the last set died but just never did….

It does look awesome!! Your ducks are gonna be soo spoiled! 😍

Today I hung out with Rosebud while drinking coffee and watching football. She’s a very calm and chill girl like Penny Pot, but even less sassy.

Then I took a short nap and went outside to get the empty coop cleaned out, refreshed, and set up for the inside babies. I decided to take the big dog kennel out to the backyard and put it on dirt. This way when the water spills it does not create warm, wet bedding for fly babies!! So I took one of the doors off, moved some pavers around, took off the door and installed an auto door, added hardware cloth to cover the door gap, and moved the babies outside. I’m hoping this will work! Will also be a good way to isolate birds for breeding in the spring! Looks a bit convoluted and ugly but it works! 😬 I’m very tired but feeling accomplished for my Sunday.
