What did you do with your flock today?

@TropicalBabies yeah that is very irritating when someone is so wishy washy and has no communication skills! I'm sorry Hope may not be herself anymore! I thought a missing toenail was bad so I cannot imagine!
Joey is definitely better and been crowing all night and day so I took him down a few minutes ago to the run and he immediately started wreaking havoc with every one! Got into fight with mild natured Bluey and would not stop! So I'm bout to believe this may be how he lost his toenail with all the stuff he was doing in just a few minutes time.
Is it possible for a chicken to be better off solo? I know they say they are flock creatures but he does better without em. And they were definitely all doin better without him!
Like whe is enough enough and u rehome?
I’m sorry Joey is such a little turd. It does sound like he would be better on his own. Is there any girls he gets along with that maybe you can put him with? Like downsize “his” flock? I wouldn’t tell you to rehome him. I know how much you love him but I also know how challenging he has been.

I let my chickens out and my cockerel “got” my brown leghorn. She squatted for him again, but she is the only one so far. The other brown leghorn isn’t having it…that one is Stitch, she is a little more mischievous. I keep checking for eggs and there isn’t any. I’m guessing that I won’t have any until the spring. That is ok, I can wait. I will keep checking though.
You might be surprised although you all have very cold winters! I live in a place that only has two seasons…summer and cool rainy…so my pullets all started laying in October last year and laid thru the winter!

DH is off to Oahu this morning. Hoping to meet his new granddaughter 🙏👼 but gets to spend time with his grandson and help out minimum.

He will be gone for a week. I'm sure I will catch up on some things and get behind on others.

Gal texted back 22 hours later for her 6 chicks... I have not responded. I'm somewhere inbetween embarrassed I am so flakey and mad at her communication style. Like when it suits her. I know I did not give her enough time to respond to the last one but frankly did not expect her to. Good ol Murphys law. She is just going to have to hate me I guess.

Major yeah! Hope had a piece of puss (because their puss is cheese like) stuck in her eye that I could not get out for the life of me. I tried numerous times full on but could only do so much. She is eating well and enjoying her freedom though very low in pecking order and still getting used to her limited vision. I keep a close watch on her to make sure no infection creeps back in and I try every so many days hoping time and happiness would be on our side. Well, last night it was, I finally got it and I feel so relieved as I am sure she does too. I guess I was worried that her chances of fatality were increased as long as I could not get that final piece out. I am soooo happy, one less thing ♡ So I have Manono, Hope and a cleft beak chick but it is the molters who are having the worst time. My flock is a mess lol. Definitely extra vitamins, cleaning and new nesting materials for them.
Well, gotta get going on chicken chores as we leave for the airport early.
I hope everyone's day is good ♡♡♡
Yay for Hope!! It’s such a relief when you finally feel like you reached the peak of a tough climb! Poor sweet girl, I’m sure you are like me and just hate every minute you’re making them miserable for their own good. It’s torture on my insides—half the reason I just pay the vet if I can!

How fun to have new grandkids! DH is a good Dad ❤️

I also would tell the Gal that you just can’t wait that long to hear back and you are sorry you had to go to the next on the list. I’d say what @FBMcrazy8 said, tell her you are happy to hatch more if she wants to wait but only with a deposit or agreed pickup time after hatch. She doesn’t like it, she should respond faster when notified! They are your babies and you just being a Momma Chicken to them 😍

Such a gorgeous rooster.
I haven’t done much with them since it’s cold and we are all trying to stay warm 😂, I’m currently trying to make a splint for reaper, one of my silkies,(and my favorite hen but don’t let them know I have a favorite 😅) leg and I did figure out one of my hens, wolf my Amuracana lavender orp, like celery(my girls HATE vegetables) and I was cuddling with my bunny for awhile and when I put him back down he did his adorable little run back over to his favorite hen, elephant my blue sapphire gem henView attachment 3300803View attachment 3300804View attachment 3300808
I too am loving the beard! 😍😍 Sounds like a good day!!

So, I didn’t get a chance to get on here much at all yesterday. We were SSOOO busy! We woke up and I honestly don’t remember how the conversation started but I know I hinted to my husband that the coop is almost done and that I wanted to find out if the lady still happened to have ducks. So my WONDERFUL husband messaged her and she DID! So we busted butt yesterday (hard to say since it’s only 12:43am 😂). We got the coop done! The only thing we didn’t get done was the netting on the top. But we THOUGHT that they would either be flightless (they clip their wings) or they hadn’t grown them in yet. (It was super windy or it would have been up anyway) Well when we picked up my 4 white calls…we were told that they weren’t clipped and would fly. In fact before we left one fly out of her fence that was over 7’ high. Luckily by the time we got home it was time for them to go into the duck house. So they will stay there until I get the net up tomorrow. I’m a little too nervous to clip their wings. Especially since they don’t really like being handled yet.

We did end up telling her what happened. She asked what other ones we got, and we found out why she asking, but we told her our story, and then she also told hers. In her breeding pen she has 40 breeding ducks. Well apparently she knew it wasn’t completely predator proof but hadn’t had any problems. Until a weasel got in and killed only 9 of her ducks. Some of her most expensive ones but she is happy that he didn’t get to all of them. She was asking us because we might have gotten ones that she needed to complete a pair. I felt so bad but at the same time relieved because we are both living and learning.

I did tell her that I would be back in the spring for Silvers and Snowys. She only had whites left, which I’m ok with. But she had someone flack on her to get all of the ducks. It was meant to be. She told us and her husband that she would rather they went to us than anyone else anyway. ❤️ I think it has more to do with my kids, she just loves them. She shows them the horses every time we go out there and the donkeys. My second youngest got to get on one. My son (only 2) did not like the horses we seen first…still. But the horses that need special care are by the donkeys and he just feel in love with the 2 of them. Especially one that is really fighting. I can’t remember what all she has wrong but she doesn’t shed her fur right and she does have COPD. This lady breed her but sold her and got her back because the people she sold her to, one passed away and the other couldn’t take care of her anymore. But she said they didn’t do a very good job at it anyway. My husband now wants a horse. I told him that I would be ok with that but we get them from her.

Anyway I’m super happy to have my ducks!!! I just can’t stop checking on them. The last time I was sleeping this bad over something breathing was after my son was born because he was a month early.

I would love that! I have read that they can go through winter…but kind of my luck they won’t. But I’m not gonna give up looking 🤣

Yeah I agree with a deposit too! Then maybe she will pay closer attention because she has already invested money into them…

I agree with the others…I think I’d consider splitting things up so he has ladies of his own, or letting he and Bluey work things out. I do find that boys are better behaved when raised in a flock. They know their place and have better dynamics…but when that’s not the case, they gotta work it out or find their own flock. Joey definitely feels he needs to put Bluey in his place as #2…as long as the injuries are surface wounds they are okay fighting it out I think. When I had Puff, Fluff, and Emilio all grow up together with no other rooster…Puff was given the top spot with minimal fighting. But Fluff and Emilio spent a couple months working things out on who #2 would be. I came home one day and both of them were covered in blood as were the coop walls…I was sure someone had horrible wounds to heal and death had occurred. But they both had comb and wattle scratches that apparently bleed like our tongues do—fast and furious and then clot…and didn’t have another fight—Fluff had won and Emilio conceded, until just this past month after Fluff got sick and was isolated for two weeks. I know you love Joey so it’s ultimately up to you, but I can say from experience that while it is soooo hard—the relief of finding them a new place to be happy and creating harmony for you is worth consideration! I miss Puff ALL the time, but I don’t miss stressing out every day when visiting the flock or having pet sitters or neighbor kids visit. He has a happy home on the range with a big flock of ladies and I enjoy my flock more. I wish you didn’t have to even worry about it, why can’t they all just get along? 😩 ❤️

YAY!! They are adorable ducks and have clearly hit the jackpot! Your coop and duck area looks amazing and they are gonna love it! 😍 I know I would if I were a duck 😄 I’m glad you were able to talk to her about what transpired and she could share her experiences and all is on the table. Makes you feel like you found a trustworthy arrangement and that’s always nice! Plus horses 😍😍 She sounds like an awesome lady! Can’t wait to hear more duck stories!

Today was very low key…I survived all my coaching without incident and we won volleyball and tied at soccer…so it was worth powering through to make sure the kids got to play! Soccer was tough though—was over 45 mins away, I was coaching alone (other coach on a vacation), played a team who’s coach was telling them to elbow and push, the other team had a ringer who used the F word and pushed and stepped on feet and such, and the ref was old and old school and let a LOT of it go as “soccer is a physical sport” 😣 So one of my parents came over to yell at the ref about his unfair calls and all the while I’m thinking…how far away is the bathroom 😆😣 Had girls crying over goals and mean words and unfair calls, one of my girls flopped in true soccer style so ref would see the girl pushing her…it was super. 😆😆 Volunteer for the kids! They say…it’s worth it and fun!! They say…🤪

I noticed on my chicken cam, the little splash Cochin baby Ariana Sushi huddled in a corner and brought her in. Her poops looked a bit bloody so I started treating her for coccidiosis and later in the day she had a poop with worms in it, so I also started her with dewormer. I hope she makes it through the night, I’m so scarred after having Axel die after deworming 🥴 I am not surprised she is sick though—she’s one of the weird animals that will happily eat her own poop droppings 😣😣 Quickest way to get sick with worms and parasites and I’m hoping she grows out of this habit if she makes it🤦🏼‍♀️She’s always been small and behind the others, but manages to do all the chicken things anyway so fingers crossed.

Also my white d’Anver eggs are already on Day 10. I got 19 eggs and after candling tonight, I have 3 I feel really good about and one that’s iffy. The iffy one seems a bit overly saddled and veining is weaker, so my guess is it will make it to lockdown and then be DIS. Two have really strong vessels and movement, so hoping for at least two to hatch 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Looking forward to a cool temps week and some time in the AM with my babies. I’ve missed them! 🥰
