What did you do with your flock today?

Yesterday I won some fake eggs at an auction! And some other pretty cool stuff. I used a bleach wipe to clean them before putting them into the coop. I believe they were used as a decoration in the kitchen due to what was all in it. I got several for only $9. When it is $9 for some that finally came in at Walmart and you only get 4. Hopefully this will help get the chickens to use more than just the one nest box. They started showing interest in the other boxes since putting the “curtains” up but still choose the very last one. All 17 can’t use that nest box alone… 🤦‍♀️
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the basket, just classic. Terrifically smart deal. I think the girls will find their rhythm and spread out (after lots of yelling at each other lol), the eggs and curtains are useful tools absolutely. Bravo!

The three in the pics are all barnyard mixes. I also have 6 Cemani cockerels. I can’t give them away and I hate to cull ☹️
I don't see any sense in culling a handsome healthy roo either. Hope all are behaving for you. They sure are beautiful to look at and fun to have around hopefully.
Welcome to @FrankieDoodle 's thread.
Terrific flock and cozy coop!

Have you tried moist chick starter? I find the chicks eat moist better then dry. I use a peanut butter jar lid and give small amounts with frequent refills. And dry starter is always there and available too. I also like to sprinkle brewer's yeast on the top for poor feeders. And keffer or Activa yogurt...I prefer keffer cause it's lactose free. Anyways, just tossing ideas at you in case anything can help...it sounds like your taking good care of the little ones. ❤️
Those are some really good helpful tips! I'm glad you chimed in with them and I am going to file those myself.
I was wondering if they have access to grit yet. I know that they are just days old but under the circumstances it may help get their crop straight. Though... lots going on. ♡♡♡

The basket is so neat!! Those are the fake eggs and what the basket they came in. And…my BSL went to a different nest today! I’m so glad!! So far she has laid everyday and for whatever reason she pushes the out of the nest, luckily it’s going to the back so my drop down door basically catches it. I have been checking periodically cause the last 2 days I have been getting 3 eggs.

Bringing Gremlin home was. He's about to leave to visit his kids though so he's ok, and I haven't ruled out letting him keep her. But I haven't told him that I might let him keep her either yet. I'm going to give myself a month to decide. Him and his daughter always visit the day after Thanksgiving and if I haven't found a good dog to tempt him with, I'll probably end up letting him permanently borrow my baby girl.
I think I'll have a list of senior citizen groups for him too. Trying hard to come up with as many social activities as I can.
Very thoughtful of you all the way around. What a terrific friend and neighbor you are. ❤

Yes absolutely LUV the eggs and basket! Beautiful! Might have to keep i side for decor lolol!
Yeah after the d'uccles were playing soccer with the 2 plastic eggs even though I filled em with sand, I bought a 4 pk at Walmart (I sure hope I didn't pay that price but don't think I even looked 🤦‍♀️) the cashier was trying to be ever so careful with em...I was like oh they are fake for my chickens! She got the biggest laugh!

I spent a couple hours in the coop just trying to Nancy Drew my flock and making sure the boys are staying mellow.
Good looking flock there!!!

@ChicksnMore yeah I am trying everything you can imagine! @TropicalBabies idk how you tend to sickly ones day after day!
But thank GOD they both seem to be better today!!! I'm praying that continues cause I have worked so hard on this color and they are too sweet of course!

@Gammas Bearded Babies
These are also very light weight! I’m hoping I will only need them in there for a short time. I’m thinking to leave the rest of what I had as a decor. I only have one in each box. The prices of them very well may have gone up since you bought yours. I seen that and laughed. There was no way I was going to spend $9 for 4 eggs. Granted they are heavier but not worth what I needed them for. Before I found the ones I got I was going to check out Amazon. At least the cashier didn’t just throw the eggs around without care lmao but that is just so funny!!! I would honestly be wondering why you only bought 4 for that price 🤣 🤣🤣
