What did you do with your flock today?

The new nest boxes yeah cuz I only had 2 that were plastic and I saw these ceramic and thought hey they won't play soccer with these and they are beige!
I loved the weight of them. I just couldn’t see myself paying that. I didn’t even really shop online for any but I’m sure that everywhere I just about the same price. At least they will last a long time!

Well the girls are using other nest boxes. Which is good cause now I’m not having every other egg being broken. @TropicalBabies I get needing those eggs. And I know that there is a lot of things of higher price there than there is here. The great thing about them though is you can use them over and over again.

Today is just gross outside. Wind is supposed to be at 27 mph but out here in the flat land we are looking at closer to 50mph again 😭. I can’t wait until some of these wind breakers we planted this year get big enough to actually break the wind.
Same weather here...we must be pretty close lolol
And yep I did pay that for 4 ceramic eggs! 🤨

Today was a busy day and I didn’t have a ton of time for the chickens, but had to make time for them tonight when I checked the coop cam and saw that their auto door was still open at 8:20. Went out to close it and discovered that a rat had chewed the electrical wire and the door now won’t shut 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ So we all went out in the dark with head lamps and iPhone flashlights and tried to scare away the rats and find something to block the door until morning when we can try to fix it 😩 This of course had to happen 7 days before we go on a trip to idaho and have a pet sitter…😡 stupid rats! 🐀 I ordered two extra replacement cords but I’m sure they won’t make it before we leave and this is of course the only coop that now has no door at all to use if the auto door isn’t working either 😩 So annoying!

I did get a bit of time with the new babies, and a couple of the chickens outside before it got dark, but they’ve been a bit neglected due to work stuff this week! They were very happy to get their treats though!!

Edited to add**the waterer looks gross but it’s got meds and apple cider in it to cut the taste of the meds. And the other waterer is empty so I can force them to drink their yucky meds. They’re not being neglected I swear! 😆
Stupid rats! I hope that you will get the wire before you leave! Your little ones are just precious! It’s good to see you got some time with all of them! Always nice to just relax watching them!

They are just so precious!!! There is never enough time to spend with em all!
I really need to stop hatching!!!

Rats! Thats such a pain! And u r fixing to be gone too! Ugh! Hopefully those cords will come asap!

Well....the 2 are about the same as they were yesterday...the runt back to pecking its feet and chirping loudly and the possible wry neck had fallen over before I got up this morning and where I'm giving them all the vitamins their poo is little wetter and it had it all over its side from fallin underneath the heat plate.
So quickly washed it off and blew dry it...soaked runts feet and blew dry it....it's crop just is barely there. So I'm wondering if the nearly constant chirping is failure to thrive.
Made more mash with vit e, b and poultry cell and nutridrench. All small doses for the 5 to eat.
May give em some sesame seeds to help with runny poo ....
Someone here had told me months back whenever one had the splay legs and a slipped tendon that the sesame seeds were quick easy treat to help with vit B deficiency....then someone else said no it constipates em...so idk.
Maybe it'll help in this case?!
I added some pine flakes to their paper towel bedding to distract runt from its feet pecking...things are a little quieter finally!
I’m gonna have to do some research on this feet pecking…I haven’t heard of that yet. I kept rereading your post the first time about it to make sure I was reading it right. I have heard positive outcomes for wry neck. I hope everything gets better for them!

We have to be! Stupid weather! I went out this morning and moved a windbreaker I have for the chickens this morning that I put up against their house so they can be under it and out of the rain. But what do they do?? Just walk around the run anyway…even though the wind is pushing them again the fence. They are just so funny. I even moved their food and water under the coop so they didn’t HAVE to come out.

I’m gonna look around real quick to see what the prices online are. Maybe if I find that you got a pretty good deal, you will feel better!

@Gammas Bearded Babies nope…I can’t make you feel better. However, there was some that was WAY more. And really after some of the prices and shipping costs (unless you get stuff from Chewy anyway and free shipping) you would be pretty close. Some offer more eggs though that would pretty close to the same price. HOWEVER you have them in your hands and you can use them right away. You don’t have to wait.

Yeah I hear it is common for feathered feet babiea to do this...2 hatches ago I had some Satins and Silkies that did this too and putting the pine shavings in helped distract em but it had gotten alot more bleeding from picking em so I had to bandage em up for few days.

I still have yet to get my wind breakers up! I mean there is stuff all in the run to help but when they are determined to sit on top of the brooder or their porch they are higher than all the stuff!
My run is covered but the wind is ridiculous....I hadn't been out yet! Ain't no telling what's going on down there cuz my coop cam ain't chargin!

That’s good to know. My French Black Maran didn’t do that. And the 6 additional ones that I got to add to the 18 hadn’t done that either. Granted they were 3 weeks old when they were killed so I guess they could have done it eventually. I’m glad though to know that for when I get more. I will know what to expect and who to go to for advice!

I still have to put up a couple more windbreakers. I only have one tarp on the North side and then I just have plywood we have left over from making the coops leaning up against their house for when they are under it. It is crazy cold and crazy windy…you aren’t missing a thing! Promise! My run isn’t covered in the top, just netting to keep hawks and owls out. That is the same for the ducks too. The ducks though have some of their run made with pallets and it is a GREAT wind blocker itself. My chickens do have stuff in the run to help stop some of the wind, including my door inside their run. The ducks don’t have anything. I’m hoping to add some cute stuff in there for them but I have a feeling I start doing that and I’m gonna find eggs in weird places.
