What did you do with your flock today?

So Billy passed yesterday morning. He had a mild seizure and just never came back to us.
His urine, blood, x-ray etc tests came back fine. X-ray showed some liquid in his left lung lining a few weeks ago but heart etc looked fine. However his electrocardiogram showed severe abnormalities on his right side heart. Probably congenital. They do the x-rays from the left and that's the side that normally has problems, so it's been missed at every vet appointment. The other vets said they could maybe hear a level 1 heart murmur but it's so mild it wouldn't be causing all this. Anyways...his heart was too far gone and there was nothing we could do to help him except to make sure he died loved. Which he did.
We buried him in the garden near his favorite sunning spot and planted a chaste tree over him.View attachment 3314460
Kimi's heartbroken of course. She's loved a lot of animals, but Billy and her had a special bond. That little boy lived for her. He slept all the time and only came alive when she came home and then he'd cry like a baby from he moment he heard her truck until she picked him up. And then cry some more if she set him down. He's leaving an awfully big hole behind.
Anyway, he was 14 and though it feels too soon.. he did have a good life. He will be missed.
Awww I’m so sorry about Billy 😢 he was clearly loved so very much and knew it. Losing them after a long happy life seems to hurt more and less all at once. Lots of memories to mourn but also knowing they lived a long happy life. I’m sorry Kimi has to feel this loss, special pets leave big holes that are never truly filled. Hugs to you all ❤️

@Shetland lover what cute little spurs and feet Ferdy has ♡ it does look a little irritated. Found this little read on byc.

Post in thread 'Why are my roosters getting blood red legs?' https://www.backyardchickens.com/th...rs-getting-blood-red-legs.723653/post-9947435

Does he pick at it (did you mention and I did not catch? Sorry)
I have had REALLY good luck with slathering Vaseline on the legs. If he has the beginning of mites it will kill it but I have found it works as a wonderful conditioner. The dirt sticks and they look ridiculous for 2 or 3 days but then they look like they went to a spa.
🤔 Maybe... I should slather myself in Vaseline... at least my hands and face lol
Thank you for the link! It was really interesting. I'm hoping that's all it is with Ferdy. He's 16 months old so I suppose his hormones are in full surge. He certainly 'enjoys' his ladies 🤣
Well...just two more pics, then I'm done! Here's Billy in the same moment from two different angles ...what a silly boy.View attachment 3314482
View attachment 3314483His fat/skinny trick...and all he had to do was be himself, no lessons required 🤣
I'm so sorry Chicksnmore. :hugsHe sounds like he was an absolute darling. Such a lovely boy who obviously had a wonderful life with you all.

Oh gosh, I am so sorry. Big hugs to you all as it is obvious Billy was special to you :hugsSo, so sorry Kimi 😥 Hope time helps to ease the huge loss of a fuzzy baby who was so important and needed.
I am really glad you all had a holiday adventure together. It must have meant the world to him to get to travel along with the girls. His last big job of keeping you all safe.

Love Billy's final resting place. Very fitting for a pup so great 💐🌻🌼🌻💙💙💙
We're all grateful for that too. He had the time of his life and Kimi has the memory of getting nearly a month with him every minute. I just wish this hadn't started during the trip. I'm afraid all that fun and the changes in elevation speeded his passing. Kimi's a darling though ands staying very positive about that aspect. She says from what the last vet said, he didn't have much longer regardless and at least he got his hearts desire for the last month. He even got to eat at restaurants with us. He love love loved Olive Gardens bread sticks.

The fence saga continues.... We've had escapees for the past two days. Not fun to come home and have to hunt for hidden chickens in the cold and dark.
DH put another barrier up today so no getting up onto the run, and then out. Test #3 today.
So sorry, @ChicksnMore for your loss. It is never easy to see a loved fur baby (or feather baby) depart, but may all the fond, beautiful memories comfort your family.

I'm glad Kimi feels that way. If he was left behind and started having troubles it would have been terrible. He was lucky enough to live an incredible and loved life with the cherry on the cake being an adventure with his mom. I think it sounds like really good luck and would have been terrible any other way. Who knows what the stress of worrying about his mom would have done to the poor little guy. Instead it was filled with puppy fun and joy ♡ absolute way to go Billy!! ♡♡♡ Slidding into home base ♡♡♡

Oh no! I am so very sorry yall! I'm so glad yall got those few weeks all together with him though! Memories will help Kimi with each day as she presses on. It is never easy and nothing can ever fill the emptiness a fur baby has given us!
Hugs for you all!

@FrankieDoodle good to see you pop in! How are the flocks, you and the broom?
Everyone’s pretty good! I adopted a new pigeon, Pretty Bird, a few weeks ago for Big Bird. Now I’m just looking into another buddy for King Louis.

She’s a feisty little dude, but I can really see a difference in BB since getting her. He’s so happy now, and is back to sitting on my shoulder and preening my hair. ❤️

How about you, how is everyone doing? Anything new?
