What did you do with your flock today?

Tha
Oh no! I'll be keeping your birds in my thoughts. I hope you don't suffer any more casualties. :fl

That's so sad, I'm so sorry to hear that. : ( Do you have a humane society near you? They wouldn't be as tame, but I've found a lot of nice birds at mine. Plus at least in my area, the HS is always full of doves. No matter where you decide to look, I hope you can find her a buddy.

Thank you!

Thank you! I love them too, they're mega weirdos. Squirrel has, on multiple occasions, stood on other birds while I'm holding them. She has no shame, lol.
I'm really excited to finally have another blue egger. Now I'm just hoping Fergus will also lay blue, but I'd take green, too. They turn 27wo tomorrow, so I should get another one any day now. 🤞

I'm so sorry about Share. : ( I know you did all you could, she was really lucky to have you. :hugs
Thanks @FrankieDoodle I hope so too!

Today I was working on the horse area with my youngest helping. Well, raking manure turned into a mealie and grub hunt! :wee :wee

Can you believe that's 129 mealies? I started to set them up and my youngest darling insisted on counting 🤣
I hadn't planned on starting my meal worm boxes yet, so I'll need to go get or make some boxes for them. For now they get a lidless box.

I'll have to read up on raising them again and I'd love any tips and tricks you have @TropicalBabies ❤️

Yippee!!! Free worms 😄 so fun that you can just find them in your soil!
You should slightly bury a carrot and see if you can attract more. That is so awesome!

KHS loooved their new stand and bags. Lots of gratitude ♡ I checked Kawamura feed store and they had more money and less bags, also gushing compliments :love .
How nice to spread happiness. I have got to get back to my sewing frenzy of happy. Can't let it run out lol. Still 3 more stands to build and fill.
That's awesome! Your bags and your stands look so professional so I'm not surprised to hear they're doing well ❤️. I hope you have helpers there or there was some way I could help. You're going to have your hands busy trying to keep up!

@Gammas Bearded Babies I think losing chicks is hard and I am sorry. All that promise and so fragile. I read the first and last page of your thread. You have some great help/advise. I'm hoping baby rallies ♡ Very cute cusper.

Share made it to 5yo. She died peacefully this morning. I believe she had a good chicken life with me. She was never gluttonous but also never a very good layer. Ascites happens ☹ I'm grateful she was able to rally, go up the mountain with me and the flock for a few months before succumbing to her disease. I have been expecting to have some losses with my older gals and feel prepared- just a bit sad as I will miss her/them.
In the chicken run I dug her grave a few feet deep, placed her on a nice bed of dried nesting grass, topped her with her loved compost and planted a Wai Apple tree I grew from seed. Hopefully, it will grow well, provide more shade and drop fruit to her flock. So, Share-ing in her after life 💙 RIP ShareView attachment 3317561View attachment 3317576
So much more than just chickens ❤
Awe that is such a sweet idea ...she's still there with the flock but in a better way and not suffering anymore.
I'm so sorry and know you did so much for her!!!

@kurby22 I sure hope Raven is doing better!

Well, this morning is a nice reprieve with only 4 crowing boys. Much better.

I will head to Lihue town early to drop the stand and bags with KHS, fill DH's truck with gas, pick up feed & wood along with my small shopping list.

Share is in her last moments. I have her in the brooder on the lawn so she can enjoy safely. I have some favorite foods and water for her but she is done with eating and drinking. Her comb color is fading and has a touch more blue. My husband wants to cull but I just don't have the heart. I want her to go peacefully, kindly with dignity and no fear. 🙏🤍👼

Welp. Time to get moving.
I'm so, so sorry Tropical Babies. It's so hard when they pass on. I've lost 5 so far (All different reasons) and it just doesn't get any easier. I don't like to cull either. I think the way you let Share go was perfect for her and the flock. She got to spend her last hours surrounded by friends and they know she died and didn't just disappear one day. A beautiful life lived well :hugs
@TropicalBabies as hard as it is havin to watch new born chicks suffer and cull...I cannot begin to imagine how difficult and heart breaking it would be to watch one you have raised go through that!
I am beyond sorry!
I'm dealing with the little FTT and just so awful to wanna give it more.time but then not wanting it to suffer either.

Poor baby! I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this Gammas Bearded Babies :hugs
Thanks for all the good thoughts everyone! I’m honestly not sure how Raven is doing. She’s really thin but she’s eating and drinking and pooping…I decided to let her go outside to see if the warm sun and chicken friends help her feel more like herself. She walked sort of slowly and deliberately but did have water, ate some treats, and found her friends. Gonna check on her in a bit but wanted to let her have some time without me hovering! Fingers crossed she’s out of the woods…
Eating, drinking and pooping are all good! Maybe some high calorie treats are in order? I'm keeping everything crossed for her.

Big hugs and all my prayers to you all.

Oh wow! Woohoo lucky to have them just show up! I have to buy mine in as I've no space for a farm. Wish I did, costs me a fortune! Carrot certainly seems the preferred food for the little wrigglies,

We froze last night, 🥶only 41 today but dry, the sun peeked out, yay! Chickens would rather have these temps anyways, not me. Brrrrr.....soup weather it is. They were glad to be out today. Cleaned out coops, dug around tunnels of critters in the runs. Probably rodents. Too cold for cat to be out at night. Been having a raccoon bothering my cat food dish, no food, but they come to check and scare cat. May charge up the paintball tagger and target practice on them varmints. 🦝🐭🙀

Well I needed prayers for a different chicken it seems. I swear my plans from now on should be to expect a chicken to die the day we leave on vacation. 😢😢 Fluff just does not seem to be recovered from the ailments he’s been dealing with and his molt has taken a serious toll. 😢 I was out doing last minute chicken chores before we headed out and Fluff started flapping crookedly and fell over. He won’t stand and his head seemed too heavy for him to hold up long on his own. I do not expect him to make it until we get home :-( I’m super super sad but haven’t had time to process it. He’s such a special boy and I’m going to miss him so very much. I’m starting to have anxiety about traveling now :-( UGH! Chickens need to be invincible dang it.
