What did you do with your flock today?

So today I had to help DH cut and clean up Kiawe for fence posts for the pasture finding our hard wood in the beautiful and harsh wilds of Mana. Anywho, it used to sponsor the old dump back in the ... 20's?? - till 60's?? and is full of old ol glass bottles, though it has been picked through many times I was able make a few fun finds with out hardly trying. It is terrific and amazing to see a old dump with no plastic.View attachment 3326000View attachment 3326056

After our noon nap lol I got a few photos of my littles which is hard because they are always running from one spot to the next. The solo chick raised by Faith has been hanging with my 4 littles for awhile now as she was over him early. VERY cute group.View attachment 3325960View attachment 3325961Big littlesView attachment 3325963

Just another day in paradise. Time to finish up sewing.
Wonderful find! I really love that turquoise bottle...what a color! Any fun plans for your old treasure?

Definitely paradise there!❤️

It's still gorgeous...the off center is very slight! You're inspirational...I'll have to store the idea away for when/if I ever get caught up with my life.

That is so sweet. I've spent almost my entire life with no relatives within driving distance. The huge family Thanksgiving sounds delightful but I'd never thought about it from the work perspective. Lucky cousins you have there!

Poor poor baby. Sounds like old age catching up to her. I'm glad she got to eat another egg...that's definitely a favorite treat for chickens everywhere.

Any pictures of the chicken monsters? That sounds adorable 🤣 I save frozen eggs for pet treats. We had a bunch freeze in the fridge when the temp got tweaked. I threw the whole frozen eggs in a bag in the freezer and used em up in no time. Sorry about your mom and hope it goes well in all ways with the surgery. When/where is the cruise? Hoping your headed somewhere toasty!
Yeah, at this point it could be anything. I’m just so stumped, her face started to swell back in March, but it was so slow I didn’t realize it until much, much later. No other symptoms (aside from things directly relating to the swelling, like obstructed vision) and no one else is experiencing symptoms. I’ve tried a couple different meds and nothing has helped. : (
She looks like a completely different bird than she did is the beginning of the year.

Could she have a skin issue? I bought a Brahma rescue, and she came with swollen skin, on her face, neck, irritated looking legs. No mites, so I made a salve with coconut oil, and some essential oils, frankincense, lavender, tea tree. With daily application she responded well and improved quickly over less than 2 weeks. She was also molting at the time.

It is 9 degrees here with windchill 😒. I have to take the puppies to the vet today, so I have to keep them warm, but I also have to keep momma home. She is going to be a hot mess. But luckily I have most of that figured out. I just don’t REALLY know how to comfort mom. But I have a ham bone that I am going to give her while we are gone. So MAYBE that will distract her and keep her happy, if not just entertained.

I checked inside the chicken coop for the temp and it and the duck coop are setting at about 23/25 degrees. So as cold as that is I’m happy with it knowing how cold it is with the wind chill. But the ducks still could care less, they are just swimming their little fluffy butts off.

@FrankieDoodle
I poked around a bit but found basically nothing too. My first thought on your beautiful girl was age. I wonder if you could start a thread in emergencies and get some answers from the very smart regulars that hang there.

Then tag us as I am real curious about this one 😉. In all your spare time that is lol.. I think my Buffs are more fragile than my other chooks. I hope she is ok ♡♡♡

So Marble is starting to lay soft shelled eggs. I have been providing oyster shells this whole time, and crushed eggs shells. Of course they eat the egg shells but not the oyster. And my silly cockerel is eating the egg shells and I’m sure some of the oyster shells as well. Of course they get grit and it can be found in their run. I’m half minded to just give them layer feed because he is eating the calcium anyway. What good is it doing me to think about him and his needs if he is going to eat the thing I am trying to separate for his health. Honestly, the hens are laying eggs and if he is going to be silly than I’m just gonna start giving them layer feed. I can’t monitor him all the time and I have watched him really eat most of the calcium supplement. Such a silly guy!
Just catching up with the thread. I see Ferdy eating egg shells quite often but not oyster. I sometimes wonder if in some primitive part of his brain he thinks he's cleaning up after the ladies to throw potential predators off the scent? Or maybe he just self regulates how much calcium he needs, who knows? I feed everyone Garvo chicken food. Not ONE of them will eat pellets, Spoilt little monsters!
Literally just got back inside with 18 month old from checking on all my babies ...NOTE it is barely 40° here.
All a sudden I hear all of em sounding the alarm..."Bockin!" Like crazy! (Do yalls make that sound all together too? Mine have never done that til this group! )
I go out on deck and see man behind my neighbors yard beside my fence and trying to explain why he's back there...and I couldn't hear a thing he said cuz they were bockin so loudly!!! They gonna get me arrested! Lol?
He was delivering a package and neighbors dog got out.
Nice to know my babies know "stranger danger!" though! Lololol
:lau mine all have a communal shout about seagulls on a daily basis. And the racket when we had the roofer to fix the roof and they caught sight of him! Poor man wouldn't come down the ladder as he thought they'd attack him...I mean, they're only a couple of inches tall:rolleyes: Does anyone else's roos join in with the egg song? Ferdy sings it like he's laid them single-handedly.
Well, Spider and Beetle are VERY important to me 😉💕. I buy layer pellets and all flock/flock keeper/triple duty -or whatever you wanna call it- crumble. I add both to my feeders. If I see littles favoring a feeder I am sure to put more crumble and same with hens- they get more pellet in their favored feeders. I always offer my boys extra Piñata scratch on the side and vitamins in the water- especially B. I have not had a soft shell egg in a long time (touch wood)
My boys are incredibly important to me too. They have such big personalities, even Stanley at just 12 wks old. And they are so affectionate. All flock just isn't available over here so everyone gets Garvo Alfachick, separate egg shell, oyster shell and flint grit. Ferdy and Stanley also get a grain mix with a much lower calcium content and rooster booster in their water. They all get greens every day, and fruit whenever I have some they like. Told you they were spoilt! I've only ever had soft eggs from my ex-battery hens either when they first came out of production cages or at the end of their laying life.

Is the swelling both sides of her face, FrankieDoodle?
