What did you do with your flock today?

It was 0°F with a wind chill of -23°F on the 22nd & that night it was -4.9°F in the coop all night. It was colder than that by a degree or 2 outside the coop without the wind chill. 3 of my 11 ladies spent the day under the deck & we had bales of straw up for wind block around the deck. 1 of those 3 must-have gotten her wattles in the waterer tray & now has frostbite. I've done research & tomorrow I'm going to put CBD salve on her frost bitten wattles tomorrow. Tomorrow is our 1st day above freezing since the 21st!
We've had similar issues here with the weather...never praying for white Christmas again lolol!

Ducks had their garden time and I walked them out to the pond. They start out so calm and serene.

Then they explode and go crazy for a bit. All three are in all the pics..but you can't always see them 😂

Clive is the colorful one ands always been more mellow. The two whites, Chubby and Peeky just go nuts though!

Well I rushed around today preparing for the new weather that just arrived…this is what’s going to arrive by 2:30 am. @TropicalBabies you really didn’t need to share! 🤪😋

Coop clean outs, rain tarps, filling rat tunnels, topping off waterers and moving them under protection so they can use it tomorrow without too much exposure. I also raised the ground coop up higher off the ground to minimize mud and water in the coop. I’m exhausted haha. I am supposed to go up for NYE to stay at my moms in Boise on Friday, but with all the Southwest cancellations and chaos I will probably be changing my flights to later in January and staying home with my babies so they don’t drown!

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas Day with your family and/or friends ❤️ I know Miyuki is sure enjoying today…while playing vet hospital with my daughter 😍😆

There isn’t any heat luckily. Just very swollen and hard I guess would be the word. A little squishing but not much. I guess just normal swelling but I think it might be irritated more than anything. The one spot is my biggest concern because it isn’t hot (anywhere) and it is open.
No heat is great as heat usually means infection or tissue injury. Have you tried cleaning out the open area with a syringe full of saline? It'll ensure there's no debris in there to create a breeding ground for infection and help you get a better look at what's going on. Is it a deep wound?

Miyuku is clearly living her best life right now! :lau
I panicked a little when I first saw the photo. I thought 'poor Kurby! What on earth has happened now?!' Glad to know all is well.

I definitely saw black on the tips of Cocos comb on the first day of this blizzard and then it has diminished to nothing.
So I'm not sure at this point.
Did you try posting on the emergency thread section to get some better advice?
They've always been very helpful in health problems for my babies.
Is he eating and drinking and pooping like normal?
Since bringing him inside he has been. Outside he wasn’t coming off the roost. Even when I took treats out. So I made him mesh inside just to be sure he ate and he has been eating that great. At first his poop too was real watery. Not diarrhea like, there was his normal poop and then water with it. I don’t know how else to explain that except it would be like he only drank water but didn’t eat. It is normal now though. I haven’t posted anything in the emergency thread yet because everything I have looked up has said to do everything I have been doing and what you guys have said to do. The only thing is that I just am not sure yet if it is frostbite or just an injury. I noticed real fast the same day of the blizzard all the girls whose combs are frostbiten. None of them have gotten better or gone away. Even this little dudes comb is frostbiten and it is obvious. And he has a small comb. I did see too on another thread where someone’s chicken had the same problem with there foot and they treated it the same I am but it doesn’t ever say what the results were.

So pretty!!! They are having so much fun! I know my ducks are jealous right now lol. I will have to share a picture of their coop when I go out there.

O Miguki looks adorable 😍. Made me remember when my oldest was little and would use a pen to pretend to give the pets shots. Then she'd comfort them and tell them it's all over 😂.

That storm front is going to roll over us too. Rain predicted for the next 3 days! I have to spend today getting our water tanks empty to catch the coming rain. All our plants are still well watered from the last rains though, so think I'll deep water a few of our trees that can handle it.

Hope the rains kind to you and yours. Hope you had a wonderful and sweet Christmas too!
