What did you do with your flock today?

The heated waterer is 3 gallons, so it weighs 25# full. I've gotten to carrying 3 x gallon jugs of water out there, then filling it, and lose About a quart just turning it back over. It doesn't look like any more freezing temps anytime soon, but my automatic fill nipple bucket is not auto fill at the moment, since the supply pipe cracked during the freeze and I had to turn off the water until DH can fix the pipe. At least I don't have turn the bucket over, and I can fill that from the top. My hands/upper body strength are sometimes not strong enough to handle things well anymore.
I hefted 6 x 25kg bags of sand into the run last week. Tore a muscle in my chest wall and crippled my back. I used to run about with 30kg sacks of potatoes on my shoulders before my back problems. I really, really resent getting old:barnie

I need to get back off the sugar too. Just DH to help me get through sugarloaf mountain...
My girls love pineapple too. Not the boys though for some reason. Little Stan's favourite is coconut and Ferdy favours passion fruit.
Gladys and Stan have decided their current favourite fruit is cranberry - very festive of them!
They also get the fallen apples with the bonus worm sometimes, and some plums or peaches that fall as well. They go crazy for grapes. I have to be careful how much fruit they get, or they end up with the runs, much like people do. :wee

Trying to decide if this babies a splash. It's the first baby born white thats kept so much white so far. All the other pale chicks grew up full colored. With the blue genes, I know I should be getting some splash birds...but I haven't had any that are clearly splash so far. Curious what you guys think.
Was hoping to get pictures of him moving around but he said cuddles were more important.

He really doesn't look very splash to me but he's definitely very different from my other birds ands from a blue/blue breeding. These guys change color like crazy as they grow so no idea what he'll look like down the road, but so far all the birds have a pretty uniform look.

Bries his dad.View attachment 3361866
Brie as a cockerel. View attachment 3361874
Brie as a chick. Usually their first feathers are all wild type brown and the white feathers come later with reds coming in last. Blue and black show up between the white and the reds. And the white increases a lot over time.View attachment 3361875
I don't seem to have a pic of his mom but could get one tomorrow. She's a silvery blue with heavy mottling ands my palest hen...but no feather edging on either parent I think. I'll have to look closer tomorrow. I brought him in to look closer at him and now half the nights gone and I still don't know what I'm seeing! 🤣😭
He's a beautiful little floof whatever colour he turns out to be ❤️😍
I'm really not sure if he's splash. Both Ferdy and Penelope started out pretty white with the odd dark blue feather. Ferdy has become a lot more splashed since his first adult moult while Penelope's splash markings have only increased a bit. Neither of them ever had that pretty edging on their wing feathers.
Keep us posted on how he develops, I'm intrigued how he turns out!

Mine will not eat apples at all! Wish they would eat them as we have loads every year. Mine absolutely adore grapes too! We have a black Hamburg vine over the run and a champagne grape at the allotment so they're well supplied. I freeze them for the summer as hot weather treats.

@ChicksnMore

Should add that the chicks born whitish so far have wild type brown come in as their first feathers. He's the only one that's had white come in first.
Definitely gonna be interested in seeing this one grow out!!!

Sorry yall idk what happened with the quote lol

That's right, it's avocado, star fruit, mangosteen season. Yummy!
Orange, soursop ((got 14 fruits @least!)... think it is everything season now 😋 Kekaha loves the winter! Heck, we have a #9 Mango that is fruiting and also blooming up a storm and my 4 year old papaya is back at it. Love that tree. Winters are perfect here no doubt.
Mangosteen! 🤤 Lucky you ❤️
A basket sounds like a good idea. It's wonderful to hear people talking about ways to use less. Happiness well earned.
Your little ee lady is a pretty girl. Reminds me of wyandottes with those feathers. I don't have any blue layers since Nanny Og passed...well...I should say since she stopped laying because it's been years since we've had a blue egg. Hope she lays eggs as pretty as she is!
Boo's rack came yesterday and we installed. Now for a basket... 🤔 I think I may try to reuse an old rectangle basket frame and re weave it with cast off irrigation tape from the fields. A little nervous to try but not a lot to lose.

Been wanting to try a project with this tape for decades 🤣

I'm curious too. The lady I got these birds from kept them separated by color and my understanding was that they're all pure bred. But I haven't seen anything showing blue in the native birds. There's lavender but some of the people from Oland say they're not pure dwarfs because of their color. Guessing that's why it seems Greenfire hasn't sold any of the lavender yet. They even pulled the picture of their lavender that they had up. Wondering if the blues have something else mixed in.
Wish I had her breeding records or had asked more questions when she was alive.
Either way, I just love these little guys. I need to name that boy now...his first time being handled and he went into cuddle mode immediately. Fell asleep and let me lift and play with his feathers like it was nothing new. 🤣❤️

Cleaned out the smaller coop, totally changing the shavings..Why is it that they all of a sudden get interested in the discarded bedding that I throw into their run? As if there are magically appearing treats, or something. Nice thing is that the rain held off until I was done. Nice to have tolerable temps. Gave them pineapple skins to peck off the leftover flesh in them. Nice and sweet treat.

5 eggs today. Getting leftovers eaten up from Christmas, including the desserts. So glad I have 3 grown sons who are helping eat the desserts, especially. My friend made me a tres leches cake, and I'm glad I didn't have to eat all of it myself. Now, to get back off of sugar. Made some lovely French toast this morning with the Challah bread I had leftover as well.
My chickens hate pineapple 🤷‍♀️ always shocked to read the things other people's chicken love and mine snub.

So right about the sugar. X3 here! I would not bring it in the house if it were only up to me. I have 0 willpower when it is front of me ESPECIALLY if it rhymes with cheesecake 🤦‍♀️

Wow! I'm I seeing right that the pile is all seed pods? And it's called irrigation tape? I'm so curious to know more!

Most our trees here make various types of seed pods like those. I've used them to fill bowls for decorating but never thought to try making a basket with them. That could be seriously beautiful 😍 Can't wait to see what you do with it...I love learning from others hard work! 😁❤️
