What did you do with your flock today?

14 eggs today and caught both young pullets at the mini coop nest box together looking and pecking.
When I came back with my camera only one remained looking pretty innocent. I don't know... what do you gals think, innocent? View attachment 3383460
Chickens do a great innocent/It wasn't me! face....

Today I noticed a new rat run - with poor Connie's skull on top of the excavated soil next to it! I was furious and tearful.
Haven't been deadly serious about getting rid of them so far as I have a sneaking admiration for them and I'm too soft to kill them. They gotta go though!
Glad the treddle feeders are working out for you PopoMyers. Mine were too scared to use them so I'm still clearing food out every night in an attempt to have less rodent attractants.

What were they pecking? Any evidence of the crime?

It's a conditioning process. They could get used to it. The noise startles them at first, but they get used to it after a few days to a week. I didn't follow the suggested time line exactly, and they looked well fed the last few days with the noise. Tomorrow and the next day I'll be observing crops to see if they've eaten.
Hope you can find a solution to the rats.

Mine was a gift so did not come with directions and I did not Google either lol. Folks who gave me said their chooks were terrified of it and could not wait to get rid of it. After cleaning I filled with feed and topped with a Piñata scratch -the good kind as I don't buy the cracked corn 😉- on top of the feed and infront of Spider. Less than 2 seconds later flock was on it and the rest is history. They teach each other and even the babies love to use it. I had to get used to it sounding like a bear was knocking around a metal rubbish can was all 🐻🗑.

Not this time 🕷 lol. But def in the past and I have absconded a few half breeds in the past. It does seem like weird behavior being he is only mating a few old broads and letting Beetle have the majority of the flock. His legs have some good red streaks and he was chasing another feral gal around for about a week a few weeks ago. Normally he could care less or even pecks them. IDK. He is so terrific I just love to watch and ponder. I'm not smart enough to figure his logic. 🤔
