What did you do with your flock today?

Thank you! Yes, I made the window openable, but still working on how to keep it open…I have a couple ideas, but wanted the walls up first.

Thank you! Wish you weren’t quite so far away! I’d drive out and help :-D I am sure you will get it though! Just don’t be hard on yourself ❤️

Thanks!! My perfectionist side sees every flaw and imperfection but I know it doesn’t have to be perfect for the chickens to be happy and safe and dry so that’s what I’m trying to focus on.
When DH was building the coop, and he had a helper for the day, his phrase was, "it's a chicken coop" as in, perfection not necessary. You'd probably have a good laugh at mine. The panels he used swell and shrink with the varying amounts of humidity, latches started not lining up, but it shut real tight because the wood swelled, the ramp was rough shod at first (I think that's possibly the cause of the first summer's bumblefoots). Now that it's nicely coated and caked up with a good layer of dried mud, haven't had any bumbles since.
You could go into a coop building business, I love how it's progressing along.

Thank you!! 😍 It turned out really great by the end! I’m very happy with it 😁😁 so are the chickens so far hehe. I have a prefab that swells and gives me all sorts of issues—so I made sure to do ALL the things to ensure ease for ME 😆😆😆

After waiting almost 2 weeks for the one print shop to help with the design of my bag tags, they came back with Lordknowswhattheywerethinkingjunk. I was a little sad but quickly used my girl brain, laid out what I wanted and emailed another printer and am ecstatic with it I think. I have only seen this proof. Will go pick up prints on Friday.View attachment 3406476
It is certainly a start. Also have another stand to make for another favorite Waimea restaurant! Yippee!
Sometimes you just gotta do it yourself. Love your simple design. Another stand! Will you have time to fill it, and keep up with all the others? I made some bags, after being inspired by you, and it is not a fast project. Go for broke!

It is actually. I know she wants to start vaccinating her chicks but he was basically telling her not to because it wasn’t worth the price of the vaccine unless she is vaccinating a lot of them. I get it and understand that there is a lot of waist but at the same time if you can prevent it, why not.
Maybe all the chick hatchers around and near you could get together and have a vaccination party to share the cost of it, then there wouldn't have to be so much waste.

That maybe…I wasn’t really sure. But I have some of their eggs incubating…so maybe his true colors will come through one of the babies… 🤷‍♀️ I’m honestly still learning about how the coloring works.

I don’t really retain information very well. I can read it but when I’m done, i have forgotten half of what I read. I’m so better at learning hands on. I have done some looking and reading but nothing is really sticking.
We're alike in that way. My comprehension/retention while reading, listening or even watching a movie leaves a lot to be desired. I did not pass a test to be an answering service operator.
However, we all have other superpowers, right?

It's been raining hard here for the last 15 hrs and has caused some pretty big puddles to which the ducks are ecstatic. They are grass surfing as we speak.
The ladies are not having as much fun. They are 10/10 not impressed.
Went out and lined the coop, run, palace with straw and bedding to make sure they have a large dry area. In this process, learned a funny fact.
Wanna heard a bunch of selective hearing hens? Walk up to their area with an umbrella. Don't even have to walk in. You don't have to point it at them. Poof gone.
Better than watching the nature channel.

Yesterday dh and I rode our bikes up Koke'e to refill bags and buy a shirt for my Maui son. I like to bring up my own Piñata scratch w/catfood in it (high protein) because of the lack of bugs up there. It gives the wild chooks a healthier snack than the cracked corn they sell at the lodge for the tourists. I remembered there are sometimes a few Batchelors in the back of the park, walked and saw these guysView attachment 3403334View attachment 3403335
Dropped domestics looking lost and hungry.
So today I drove my truck up and did a rescue mission. Basically open my small cage and threw scratch in it and then shut the door. 2 walked right in and they were H U N G R Y.
Then took them to the trailer coop and set them up with food and water.View attachment 3403332View attachment 3403333
Sweet young boys. Will put an add in to see if I can't find them homes if not, at least I can provide a bit safer one for them.
I'll head up on the bike in a day or so to try for the 3rd roo. He is older and sketchy-ier so may take some time. I can at least give him better quality feed.

2 cockerels gobbled up lots of food, still a little stunned with their luck. Food, water, a roof and easy hop roosts.

Feral rooster let me know he needed feeding too.View attachment 3403344
Awww, bless your heart.

Yeah the wind has been something else the past few months!!!
Where in the world approximately are you located...in US? Here in TN we got in low 30s last night and of course I forgot to cover the lettuce, arugula, kale, spinach and radicchio seeds I just put down again yesterday. Not sure they'll germinate now but ill wait and see.
If they were just planted, they should be fine. Those tolerate cooler temps, and many times volunteer in my garden after a freezing winter.
