What did you do with your flock today?

Found someone to take the yokos! So happy and means I still have a chance to have a myco free property. I get to take them over tomorrow or Thursday... probably Thursday. I'm going to miss them like crazy. I'm seriously sad to see them go, but glad not to have to worry about it spreading. Especially since it can spread to parrots and I didn't have the guts to give Tami's blue and gold macaw a shot. He's so sweet but can also be really nasty when he's mad and his beak can puncture metal cans. If it turns out I'm too late rehoming them, I'll just have to bite the bullet and hope Tiny doesn't hate me for it.

U go to.shows...would u classify her as blue mottle? I've got a blue mottle satin roo but he is so much darker than she is...she is really a cool grey color.
Few weeks old pics cause shes.gotten a lot more white now...but she's just so grey.
Yes! She looks blue mottled, and a super pretty color blue! The roos tend to get much darker gray blue than the girls, and she will likely be more mottled after her first molt and then again after her first hard molt. My one black mottled girl is really black with very little white but her first pullet molt she got more white and in different designs. Mottled patterns are fun that way. She is simply adorable 🥰

I’m so glad and sad for you at the same time!! I hope you were able to catch things before they got to everyone. And I hope you get new Yokos someday! ❤️

OMGeeze I am in luv with this work of art!!!
How in earth do you keep from cutting up yourself on all that sharp stuff?!

I've wondered about this! Would LUV for a detailed instruction or video showing how!
I learn by watching best.
There's sure to be a lot of videos on YouTube, I bet. Will have a look when I have time (I'm revising for my 'etiology and epidemiology of poultry diseases' exam next week - eek!).

You can let your plants go to seed, then collect them. Same principle/process to sprout those other seeds. It would be cost prohibitive to buy them to sprout for the chickens.
I'm a big seed saver, always allow a couple of any crop go to seed for sowing next season. Things like radish and kale produce a lot of seeds per plant too. But even if I didn't, I only have 6 chickens so the cost wouldn't be too prohibitive if I had to buy seeds to sprout. I do buy alfalfa seed. Another good thing to sprout is melon seeds. I just save them from melons we have for ourselves. Same with squash seeds, just wash really well then set to sprout. You really don't need many seeds to sprout in one go, the volume more than doubles once they've germinated.

OMGooooooodness!!! Got it! A true Christmas miracle ♡♡♡ a double yoke soft shell. Gosh, thought it was a tumor. Was able to flush and work it out far enough to puncture and empty the soft shell and pull it out. Sooooooooooooooooo HAPPY!!! :jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:ya:ya:wee:wee:jumpy:jumpy:ya:bun:ya:wee:wee:wee
That's the most amazing news! Well done on removing the egg! I once had to manually remove a soft shell egg that was stuck in Maud's vent. That was bad enough. Removing one from a prolapse? Just wow!!!:bow
I'm sure Jelly bean will make a speedy recovery❤️

Yall Stormie laid her 1st egg yesterday at just 20 weeks old! Never had a bantam lay that early! She's a bantam mottled Cochin!
The egg is so teeny tiny!
How gorgeous! She's a similar colour to Clara who is a blue mottled too. Their plumage changes with every moult and they get more heavily mottled as they age. You can see the difference in her here. The third photo was taken at just 26 weeks, the second photo a couple of weeks ago at 2.5 years old. It's an even more pronounced in Pru's case (first and third photo)

Oh I knew I was gonna ask yall something...have yall ever noticed roughly same amount of weeks pass with a specific hen when she goes broody?
I documented Daisy when she went broody several times and it has been almost 6 weeks to the day each time she has gone broody since layin.
That normal? She's a bantam Satin.
You know, I've never noticed! I'll have to start keeping a record with Pru and Penelope when they go broody next. I don't imagine it'll be long til they do.

Well spring means Roosters want to jump the hens more & time for me to check who grew some pointy spurs & do something about it. I have 11 roosters & I see that their rate of spur growth is not all the same. I have a large Buff Orpington that grew back some surprisingly large spurs as compared to the other Roos. Anyway, I noticed some of his hens were looking a bit bareback so I checked each one over carefully. They can often hide serious injury behind their wings. So unfortunately, that's what I found, one sweet hen with 1 bad spur injury. I brought her in, soaked her in warm water bath, washed her gently & tended to her wound, dried her with the hair dryer while sitting on a cushy towel on my lap (they love that), then set her up temporarily in the extra bathroom that has a tub. So far so good. She is a wonderful patient. ❤️
