Well we got creative and a bit lazy in order to get the quail moved out of their crappy pens for something better. I opted to buy what I needed instead of building it since we are running out of free time and the rain delayed things for sooooo long. I’m happy with how it worked out and hoping it remains as sturdy as it appears to be!
This run fit exactly on top of the metal frame of the garden bed! We laid down pavers, then hardware cloth, then 70 lbs of sand, 3 cu ft of organic soil, and some pine shavings. Hoping this means no gross water/heat mixtures for maggots and keeps out rodents! Plus they will be easier to keep cool come summer since they are on soil that can drain. They seem sooo happy!
