What did you do with your flock today?

Spent some time alone with my babies outside while my husband took the kids to the park for some batting practice 😍 Wilhelm wanted nothing to do with his bantam run friends, shoved the gate open and ran over to me and jumped up and slept on my shoulder in the sun. ❤️

Awwww!! 💞

Today, 13 eggs, minus 1. Evidence of another egg, yolk was smeared on a few. Could have been a soft one, or cracked one? I'd have to come up with a controlled investigation to find out which girl is laying those. Any ideas? I wormed them, and fed them some scoby bits today for probiotics. Could it be she hasn't been eating the oyster shell? I use a mixed flock feed, which has little calcium, and it's also good for the chick as well.
I'm still seeing shell-less eggs here and there. Definitely Lizzie and Daisy...I think just those two and doesn't seem to matter what I do or how much I do of it they keep coming back.
All my garden is starting to set seed. Our winter veggie abundance is about over. Think this coming week will be mostly about processing veggies into the freezer to tide us over the summer.

I got one pair of porcelain d'uccles back from the friend I gave them to last year. She had too many roos so gave me back a couple. Anyhow, the rooster is a major goose. He's been spending almost all his time in the nest box. Everytime I walk past I see the hen out walking around and the roo poking his head out of the nest to peek at me. He's making a beautiful nest 🤣. I've had roos call hens to nest...but not like this guy does!
Oh I sure could use a porcelain duccle boy to go with my 3 girls!!! Pics?!
Terrific day! Sunny, warm & breezy. Girls wandered all day till 6pm. I deep watered a few palms so the chooks could step in puddles and look for bugs, emptied 1 compost bin and tossed out some BIG bugs for the gang 🪳, then Manono hung back with me this eve so I grabbed some fresh mealworms as a needed protien bonus for her. My little special cutie.View attachment 3470643

Also sewed the heck outta bags. 6 finished and 4 washed and started, just gotta put them together and sew. Realized I am close to making $1,000 for my nonprofits! That feels terrific and forward, also sewed two new styles and that always makes my toes wiggle.View attachment 3470638View attachment 3470639
Sold 2 dozen eggs, girls gave me 20 today! Clean perfect shells 👍flock is 100%.

Nice!!! From the hen to the bags to the donations to the eggs! You on a roll!

Another soft egg remnant yesterday. 🤨 Guess the oyster shell needs a couple days to work? They all seem normal, running to and following any possible treat dispenser walking near the fence. Add monkey sounds and it seems like I am hearing zoo noises. Hoping I don't find anymore yolk smears
It's pouring today, and still chilly. DH is finishing up the kratky hydroponic tubes so I can plant the Chinese broccoli babies. The plums are in full bloom, but the bees do not like this weather. @Shetland lover , isn't your home area around the same latitude as Washington? Hence similar weather. I occasionally watch garden videos which have English hosts. I also have an apple tree which hails from England called Greensleeves.View attachment 3470100
Love the plum trees and the monkey sounds! Washington's a beautiful state.
Glad the girls look well ❤️

Was super nice out today! 😍
That is so adorable! I never end up with cuddley adult chickens. My oldest does, but the ones I raise like to jump up and say hi occasionally but don't cuddle. Love seeing you with your cuddle bugs ❤️

Quickly tried to catch up...lots of pages yall been busy!
We are all sharing some crazy virus round and round...starts out like upper respiratory then goes into pink eye and throwing up diarrhea ugh! Try doing that with newborn, toddlers and exhausted parents. Other daughter due any day too.
Spent time with the babies yesterday only to get attacked repeatedly by ole bootyhead Joey. This time he messed up big time...liked to rip his spur right off and blood everywhere. So I popped it on off and bleeding had stopped. But when I got up this morning to check on him he was sitting in a paper towel soaked with blood.
He was shaking...but he wanted down so I let him down and he followed me to the coop. I put more spray and stuff on it.
I'm not sure what else to do at this point.
I had even relisted him earlier last week but not a single hint of interest. I'm the only sucker I guess.

I'll try to get pics today. Wish you lived closer, I'd happily give you these two! They're pretty and sweet but I have too many and no place for them really.

Ouch. That sounds really bad 😔 Have you tried dipping in flour or corn starch? Another way to stop bleeding is to wrap a bandage to apply a little pressure.

I love my cuddle bug chickens! They make all the crud worthwhile! 😆

I can’t believe how much work I have to do for this Poultry Expo coming up! It’s a lot to pull together when you don’t have any of the stuff! Haha. Plus I don’t know if my quail eggs are fertilized…it’s really hard to tell through their shells! So now I’m worried I won’t have enough to sell 🤪 Blah!!

Oh man, that sounds rough!! Illness and newborns and toddlers and naughty roosters is a lot to handle in general, let alone all at once! I hope you all feel better very soon!

My husband gave in to chicken math. He said we had enough (with 20 chickens & 2 turkeys). When we went in to CAL Ranch, we came out with 3 french pearl guineas, 2 light brahmas, 1 golden comet, and 3 assorted color laying chickens (no idea the breed). So we set up the baby brooder again. Plus he gave me permission to buy frizzles if I see them this weekend at the Chick Days event.

Tonight I will be measuring the fenced in area to start building chicken shelter/playground I want to build.
