Poor chooks! You must've had sideways rain.⛈ Glad for drier weather. So hard for you. I think dealing with big predators is easier than your constant battle, although, losing chickens to predators, @kurby22 Is worse.Oh goodness we had a lot of rain yesterday, so bad I did no even collect eggs. I was pleasantly surprised but my chickens unimpressed. Poor things were sopping wet on their roosts last eve with a ton of mosquitos attacking. I sprayed them and had the fan on a low setting pointed a little more away as I did not want them to chill. All zappers and dyna going, too wet for punks. Super good news is I got notice the bait stations are on their way! So excited! And thank you again @Gammas Bearded Babies ! I will (of course) keep you all posted.
Well, we are going back to a drier weather pattern today so I will hang the last of my sticky traps to pick off a few more of the masses. Also reset the fly traps.
Coffee, laundry and clean up is all I plan on doing today![]()
Thank you so very much! I will print these out. Greensleeves seems to be very resistant to scab, and when thinned produce a large apple. Flavor is best when they ripen on the tree, fine flesh, not acidic, but not a keeper. Great all purpose fruit, pies, crisps, applesauce ( usually needs a bit of lemon juice,) . We eat some, and cider press the rest.I think we are, yes! Although we've had 2 days of relatively sunny weather (been too unwell to enjoy it though and we have a friend's funeral to attend today).
I've heard of Greensleeves but I've never tasted them. What are they like, taste-wise?
We grow Pittmaston Pineapple apples which date from the 17th century and do taste of pineapple once fully ripe. They are delicious and store well but they're very small and only fruit well every other year. I suppose that's why so few people grow them anymore.
We also grow more normal types too.
Are you able to get a U.K. gardening programme called "Beechgrove"? It's set in Aberdeenshire and i find it very useful in letting me know when i ought to be doing certain things in the garden as they are roughly a week to two weeks behind the rest of the country.
I found a link to some nice scone recipes for your Afternoon Tea, they're all from the National Trust and I've not tried them all but those I have are delicious. A little tip, don't roll them out too thinly. There's nothing worse than a flat scone, they should be fat and fluffy.

The 2nd link has some nice cakes you might be able to use too.
Weather should be into our normal spring temps by next week. Sorry to hear you are unwell. Hope you feel good again soon. How is the shoulder coming along? I have a little more mobility, but still do most things carefully until May 10, when this brace comes off. Hoping the interested person comes to get Cock E today. Little chick Velma has been going exploring in the bedroom, as I've found poop here and there. She does go back into the bin to eat and sleep. I think I have to get the other cage for her until she goes outside, possibly by next weekend. Cecal poo on carpet is just not a good thing.
