What did you do with your flock today?

Luv the new coop!!! Super happy yall were able to get it and put in place so quickly!
Hope this solves alot of your unknown illnesses!
I'm sorry bout the chicks! Have u got any similar age wise to go with the lone baby?

Speaking of illnesses...told yall I thought we've had a form of covid...only covid could do so much, so fast!
idk why doctors aren't informed more quickly of this crap. Check out arcturus variant! We've been sick for nearly a month with this stuff.
Can at least one of you guys get tested? Free tests everywhere ♡ Then you know, quit spreading, maybe get an antigen treatment for anyone new to the party? if not too late. Pretty scary stuff you guys got going on especially with new babies, but yes, lots of yucky stuff out there. Good reminder to check vaxx status and get a boost if needed. Been so nice not getting sick the last few years (minus the ear)
I hope you all get this thing turned around and back to good health soon!

Ok I guess these quotes decided to show back up now lol...so is the first pic of the lil chick that was fatherless and picked on?
Gorgeous kitty!!!

Oh the views!!! Just beautiful!

Hum...well
She looked him over and said he looked really good and healthy then put him in with turkeys and other bantam roos.
I thought it was odd she didn't quarantine him for week or so.
Lizzie was humped up a little this morning but I never saw her lay anything then she went on with her day as normal. I did scramble her an egg last night and got a calcium citrate in her. I'll do it again tonight.
Ya...that's the little momma-less baldy baby. She's just a sweet little doll. She's too small still to live easy in any of my flocks though and think she's close to full grown from her feathers. Not sure if I want to find a serama roo to keep her company or find her a home with smaller birds. I'll wait til her first lay so I'm sure of her size though.
Well this was a busy and annoying weekend. Saturday was all day kid stuff…baseball team pictures, baseball game, soccer games, in-laws…we finally had time to ourselves by 5 last night. Well then I checked on my bobtail eggs I got as an attempt to replace Taunus…and out of the 12 I got 2 that made it to lockdown and it was clear last night that one of the two probably wasn’t going to make it. :-( Sure enough this morning it was clear it had died.

We spent all day today taking down the Death Coop and putting together the new Farmhouse Coop. According to my FitBit I got 285 active mins and a sun burn…but it’s together and super nice! But now we are hot and tired and crabby 🤪

We also moved the Balls, Ariana Sushi, Brie, Parmesan and Pistachio to the big run so we can prep the area where the Cooplex will go once finished! Integrating them went pretty smoothly considering but getting them to bed sure was a chore 😆 hopefully they get it figured out!

And while we were building the coop, the one baby hatched…and I don’t think it’s a bobtail 😫😢 Bobtail breeders told me it’s super dark with the wrong color beak. And it has a lot of comb so it’s probably a boy to boot 😢😢😢

So I’m beginning to think bobtails are not in my future! I have spent so much to give up now though! 😫😫

So I’m now exhausted, cranky, and mad tomorrow is Monday 🤪 @TropicalBabies now it’s my turn to be grumpy! Hope you all have a good night!
The new coop looks lovely! I'm so glad your death coop is gone and hope that fixes things for you. Keeping my fingers crossed you get another chance at bobtails. Maybe some of the genetic gurus on here can help you pick the best bird to breed to your boy to try to get back to full bobtail? Cute chick even if it's not what it should be.

Ugh. Certainly sounds like an awful time! So glad you're all doing ok overall though and hopefully all recovering now?
Sending healing prayers 🙏
There are other viruses/bugs going around here recently as well. I had one that put me in bed for 24 hours, then intestinal overactive which didn't clear up until 2 weeks later. Son had a bad URI that also gave him mild laryngitis. Missed 4 days of work.
No fun with any of those! Glad everyone mended though. How's the hand doing?

The hamburgs babies are doing well. I'm really loving the little ADHD tykes. They're so crazy active, they even jump up and down in one place occasionally for no apparent reason 😂. They're very calm and bold at the same time which is really neat. Little people fear or fear from movements etc...they seem smart. Never thought I'd say that about chickens 🤣. Can't wait to move them into a coop and just sit with them. Thinking they'll be the fun type that occasionally jump on you just out of curiosity. I was expecting them to be more fearful and flighty so very happy to find them calm...just crazy crazy hyper.

Oh we did get tested...they all came back negative cuz I guess these newest variants aren't being picked up by tests? Idk
I'm just so thankful we are mostly back to normal. Except for the lingering coughing I been planting tomatoes off n on all day!

@ChicksnMore she got her feathers back in quick it seems like! She's a cutie!!!

Oh gosh, so sorry. What a nightmare. Makes me want a nap for you :hugs♡♡ Glad you are all feeling better. What a tough time.

Thanks!! I’m super happy with it 🥰 I sure hope it helps solve the issues! The dilemma now is what to do with the Death Coop. It’s still functional but I sort of wanna just dismantle and destroy…just in case! I couldn’t in good conscience sell it just in case. It’s big too, so it’s taking up a lot of space!

I don’t know what I will do with the bobtail maybe baby…if it’s a she I will for sure consider keeping it….even if not a bobtail. But if it’s a boy, it’s gonna have to be rehomed…or at least 1 or 2 of the bobtail roosters 🤪 She’s so cute though 😍😍

The fact that this "refuge" let Joey out in public w/o iso or meet n greet like that and then let him beat the guy in charge makes me 😡😡😡 . What a :duc Can you get your money back? 🤣🤣🤣

@Shetland lover can speak to this better than I but "if it were me" I'd keep an eye on her. Not always sure what you are describing but sounds a little like a slight repro issue. If you have not wormed your flock, do it. If you have wormed them then toss a people calcium w/ vit D pill down her throat 1x per day for a week, cut down on snacks. May get her out of her funk.
Best of luck ♡
I've lost count of the number of times I removed shell membrane from Maud's vent. It is usually down to a shortage of calcium or other nutritional deficiency but it can have several other causes. Giving Lizzie some extra calcium is a good idea and certainly won't hurt her. If you provide a calcium supplement (or phosphorus or iron) long term (more than a week or so) you may need to supplement manganese. This is because calcium, phosphorus and iron can inhibit the absorption of manganese, which is also vital to the formation of egg shell, bone and cartilage formation and wound healing.
How long has she been laying? The length of time a hen has been laying for can have a lot of influence on if a hen lays shell-less eggs. It can also just be a glitch.
There are other factors which may cause shell-less eggs, some easily resolved, some not so.

I thought it sounded like ascites ☹ but now that you mention... I wonder if poster ** @Dot2dot can get ahold of some antibiotics? May help :hugs💕
I thought ascites as well. The gasping sounds to me like her vital organs are under serious pressure when combined with the other symptoms.

Lizzie began laying around October/November of last year.
They have oyster shell in 2 forms (the rock looking kind as well as the oyster shell sliver kind that's more like crused oyster shells) and they are on good feed too.
This is the same girl that acted so sickly a while back...I think it was February?
