What did you do with your flock today?

I have two baby sparrows I'm raising and they decided today was time to leave their nest for the first time. Snookie and the Sparrows somehow decided they like each other :idunno . Was kinda sad having to separate them for bedtime but better safe. Snookie was probably just glad to meet birds smaller than her that don't peck, and the sparrows just want everyone to feed them 😂 View attachment 3487607
Awwwww, Snookie looks so much better and it's just the most adorable thing ever that the baby sparrows are best friends with her. :love :love

Last eve I went up Koke'e and picked up half a truck bed of mulch for the now dry and dusty run and surrounding areas. Dumped a few piles and will let the chooks do the spreading. Gotta love fresh mulch 👍
Had Heilani sitting on the nest last eve. Did not seem broody so I dosed her with this liquid calcium I bought awhile back but had not tried out. I think i may also dose old Mazie as she is looking a little puckered and slow. Can't hurt. With that, mental note to check my stations and make sure they are full.

Hei is broody. She flattened out and growled. So tempting... it would be her 3rd x and she is a wonderful mom... what to do, what to do...

Season 9 Phoebe GIF by Friends

The babies for the Poultry Expo have started hatching as of late yesterday! These are my quail babies! Since I have lost so many quail recently I may be keeping the colors I like. Only one Italian and one silver hatched, the rest are looking Rosetta and Tuxedo and I have plenty of them haha. Today I should have more quail pipping and a bunch of d'Anvers, Ameraucanas, and Watermaals hatching! I don't know how I will sell them! :hit

I'm here at the old folks home. Can't take on more till creatures start to thin. I'd love to have some little troublemakers around 😁 deep sigh***

I crushed the pill up and fed it to her in scrambled eggs...I've forced half pill in. It doesn’t seem to help. Every few weeks she goes through a phase of soft shell eggs it seems.

I currently have a door that swings out...hate it cuz they charge the door every time I go down there and can easily escape if I'm not super careful. Really regret ever letting them free out in the yard for several reasons. So I'd recommend opening IN for that reason.

Lizzy must have a death wish! So the courtyard area is still not quite finished nor the side coop. So much going on constantly. But i did a "make do" kind of setup so they could atleast get out for a little bit when I'm out there.
Don't ya know there was a thin string that got loosened from the brand new shade cloth and somehow Lizzy managed to get hung in it and some stupid Bermuda grass that will be the death of me - hate that stuff!
So they were all on the porch for bedtime except Lizzy and 2 buffs but I'm used to having to literally tucked the buffs in.
Once I got over in the courtyard I saw her stretched out breathing really heavy all tied up in the string and grass and Hank (buff silkie roo) laying right beside her. I was super proud of him for staying with her!!! I got her untangled and she limped back to the run and coop.
Thankfully she isn't limping now!!!
Sure wish I could get all of that finished asap!
I have a new one out in my run, she is only about 10-11 weeks old. She is one that I got for the only chick I had hatch, a Black Australorp, I’m not 100% sure of her age but at least in that range. Anyway, the first day I had them out of their kennel area, I knew I would have to put them up for the night. So I go out there a little early but the solar light I have at the end of the run was already on. She managed to stick her head into the fence and through the 1inch netting. We have had this down over the the fence since the first 18 were about their age without issue. But we think she was trying to get to the light…which is where her head was. She had her mouth open and eyes closed and was not moving. I lifted her up a little to see if I could pull her out, I wasn’t even sure if she was still alive, and luckily she moved for me. I managed to get her out and she just fell. I left her be while I rounded up the others so she could breath. I picked her up and her neck immediately went all funny on her. Her head was just setting on the right side of her. She couldn’t straighten it out. I put her inside the house for the night but in like 20 min she was fine and was holding her head right. She gave me a scare for sure. I have to trim that netting know. The idea though was to keep rabbits from sticking their heads in or them eating all the herbs on the outside of the run. Oh well, they can have it all as long as they don’t kill themselves.

I have more Call babies about to hatch. I put them in like a soft lockdown last night. I checked all their air cells and there was a couple I wanted to check in on again this morning. Well I got to one in particular and it has already internally pipped. So my checking was real quick. They are on day 24 today at 9:30 am but I checked about 10. So it could have happened on day 23. Either way they are coming 😁. I put the turkeys in the soft lockdown as well. I am down to 4 of those babies. I’m really hoping they all hatch.

I finished the last of my chicks I’m hatching this year…I think anyway. I had a 2 not hatched. One I could see had internally piped, but wasn’t moving and the other just looked weird. So I somewhat opened them up to find they both had cross beak. 😔
