I let broody Hei out of lockdown last eve and somewhere during the night or morning she made her way back to the nest box.... so not yet, but close. Back in the brooder she went
Had a full day yesterday and my flock missed me! What a mess!View attachment 3494584Mo'o is doing well -3 teeth ♡. He is also in lockdown, so fur babies are bouncing around the yard like the good ol days b4 Mo started to bully them. Very nice. Mo is getting rehomed ♡.

Got sprinklers going on the lawn and deep watering the trees with well water. Can't believe how quickly things have dried and seared.

Going to put off spa day for a few more days till things settle.

Think rehoming him sounds like a win all around. He got the blessing of your help and your home gets to keep it's harmony

I treated bumble foot on a hen and un-tongue tied a pullet today.

First time for the bumble foot. Second time for the tongue problem, but it was more difficult this time around.

I'm exhausted, but satisfied. How are you all?

I'm glad it went well. I've never heard of a tongue tied chicken...curious what it is and how you treated it.

treating bumblefoot is no fun! What a good chicken parent! I’ve never heard of tongue tied chickens though, how does that happen?? Man, how do chickens live without us??

I’m getting prepped for a chicken expo! I have to be up super early! They told me I don’t have nearly enough birds for sale, but it is what it is, I’ll be ready next year!

Well, the way I was using it meant the chicken had wrapped a piece of bailing plastic around their tongue, and then swallowed it.. so it pulls their tongue back in to their throat. In this case, she had some how managed to stick her tongue between the individual threads of the plastic, and it was cutting into her tongue...

... I think tripping over words is a bit less life threatening.... Though possibly just as embarrassing.

Those all look like hens to me. Though the third picture is iffy to me...its hard to tell if I'm seeing pointed or rounded feathers there. Look for pointed feathers on the neck and tail though and the boys comb should be visibly bigger too.

Oh man!! Chickens find more ways to hurt themselves I swear! They’re like little kids…hey Mom, what’s this light socket do if I stick this metal in it? Poor girl! I’m impressed that you were able to help! Mine get very non compliant when I mess with their beak!

Well, I wasn’t sure what some of these combs should look, so I wasn’t confident. I know what to look for on the cemanis, but as far as hackles go, it’s pretty hard to tell which are pointy or rounded.

Today I'm mowing to stir up any bugs then cutting the older birds loose for their first free range as I will be outside all day in this beautiful sunny 70+ degree day to keep an eye on things. The younger birds will get their first outing in the 16x20 run.
