I was able to install all the trim strips on the coop to cover up the edges of the hardware cloth I installed yesterday. Still have the skirting to put around the base, but it's getting closer! The chicks have been enjoying it, but probably still spend more time in the coop.

Sorry, but no pics. I don't think my legs will carry me out there one more time today. I'll get some pics tomorrow.

I had some frozen vegetable scraps I threw in the run today thinking they'd like that, since it was over 90 degrees today. But no, not much interest.

I've just come in from moving 13 week old White Giants and Dark Cornish to a new hoop coop. The WG's no problem. They went peaceable. Dark Cornish, they fought tooth and nail. When I got back inside in the light I could see the blood running down my arms and hands. Next time I'll have a biker jacket and leather gloves before moving those DC's. Those DC's screamed so loud I'll probably have animal control on my door step in the morning.

One of our lovely neighbors was partying and carry on last night until after 3:30 in the morning. I never thought I'd ever call the cops and file a noise complaint on a neighbor but ugh...I did. I can't sleep in to save my life so woke early anyway. At least I think I'm awake?
Anyways... definitely going to be an unproductive day here. Think I'll set up my chair in the peas home and probably fall asleep

We once had a neighbour who would party for 48 hours straight! Idk where she got the energy!

Saw this at TSC, and about fell over laughing.

They will get into a habit of going into the coop at night, once they figure out thats where they're supposed to roost. My flock takes about 3-5 days for that to happen.

I also call "here birdie birdie" inside the chicken run and feed them treats often enough that they come when I call.... So that I can lock them up when I need to.

A fatty treat every once in a while is incentive. A fatty treat every day is a gym membership.

Oh my! I LOVE that! Is it a dish cloth? Whatever it is, I must have one! It's so,so true for all animals in my experience. On Friday, we had a fledgling blackbird stuck behind our fireplace and it's been back every day since for a mealworm handout!

Loved Moana. Think Chicken Run is a must see. The detail and humor is so spot on. Probably going to have to watch it a few more times.

Mine go crazy for ice! You would think it was the coolest thing since sliced bread the way they behave (pardon the pun!). I had an ex-battery hen, Maud, who used to go nuts for ice chips from the freezer. Ferdy soon cottoned on that ice tidbitting was guaranteed to bring her running so now all of the chickens go crazy for it whatever the weather. Silly birds!

I'm terrible, i ask, tell, then call. I used to be more tolerant but now I have boundaries and limits and keep people on a shorter leash. If not, it escalates past the wild, wild west. Down the street used to have a few houses with lots of 3am parties and FU fights in the street etc. Not anymore.

Ya...these guys moved in about 12-13 years ago. They do this a few times a year. I tried calling them...no answer. Called over the fence, no response. They're the only neighbors I have no relationship with other then to call them when their dogs get onto to my property and try to kill things. This is the first time I've complained but I think it's going to be a new habit. Just done with it.

Funny bag!

I won't really worry about them going into the coop at night once the run is secure. Going to leave the chickens' entry open 24/7. I'm actually going to encourage them to roost in the run overnight, and use the coop mainly for egg laying, and maybe in cold weather if they want.

Maybe I'll get the run secured today, and then I'll move the food and water out there and see if they spend the night in the new space.

I bought one of these whistles, thinking I could train them to come to its sound when they're out free ranging. I'd just whistle myself if I could perform consistently. LOL And I bought an orange one on purpose. Thought I'd try using swinging it in a circle as a visual cue too.

That's how I do too. Winters I remove the run roosts so they'll sleep warmer in the coops though. Love to know how the whistle works out!

That sounds so cute . Mine don't like ice no matter how hot it is...but my dogs are like that. One loves ice so now they all do.
