What did you do with your flock today?

Good morning gang and Happy Juneteenth!!! ✨🎉🎉🎉

Beautiful day here, good breeze, mid 80's.
Let Hope and crew out to dust bathe and play. Locked the flock out of run and garden, cleaned the nest box and brooder. Everything is looking really good and clean. Gave Hope live mealworms for her & her babies, she was terrific and dont think she ate any herself.
Then gave flock snacks in yard, later opening up garden, then run for the meet and greet. Everyone was mostly behaved. Hope did well ♡

Spider got a Vaseline treatment on this legs this morning, I did Beetle yesterday. Both passed their bug and health checks.
2 Lani's are STILL in broody jail (3-4 lani's so far?) and another was early to bed last eve. She is the one prone to repro issues so I dosed her with calcium to help her pass what is ailing her. Will give her calcium for the next 4 eves to help her correct.
Manono, my ftt special needs, is the only Lani who does not give me humbug. Bless her little heart 💕

With all these broodies, my egg average has gone way down. 9 eggs yesterday. That is a winter # 😂. Love these girls

Had a really lovely weekend doing absolutely nothing but enjoying lovely weather, happy chickens, and bored children! It’s the first weekend since January that I didn’t HAVE to leave my house for some reason.

I spent every day lounging and enjoying the chickens. It was really really needed! 😍

Happy to hear you got a well deserved, much needed relaxing weekend. The hat is too cute! How long did it stay on?

It's been a strange kind of busy lately. Finally solved the escapee problem by clipping both wings. Haven't had any egg eating in the past 2 weeks. My hand is still a bit unready to sew anything, so ordered 4 saddles. 2 of the girls have missing back feathers from Houdini's mounts, so caught them and put them on. I had put one side of one on incorrectly, but had to wait until I could catch her in the nesting box or on the roost to fix it. ( I caught her the first time while they were all eating treats, and I snuck up on her.) Of course, she knew after that to really watch me. 🧐 It's been cloudy, and rained the last 2 evenings. Great for not having to water the garden. Mine head for cover if the rain starts. Spent most of the afternoon thinning apples. Will go out and rake them up once the rain stops. Been chilly in the low 60's, but looking forward to normal summer 70's on Wednesday. How is your near summer going? Kids done with school?

I know, me too! 😆 The chicks? Not so much 😂

Haha not long at all 😆 Gonzo, the chick that’s pictured in the hat first…actually stood with it on for a couple mins before shaking it off—but Astro barely let me take the picture before he sent it flying off his head hahaha. One of our very calm girls keeps it on till it falls off on its own and Aria just loves it 😂

I’m glad you have fixed the Houdini and the egg eating! 😁 I’m guessing your Houdini is very bummed they can’t continue their adventures though! 😆 I think I will be needing a couple hen saddles too. I hate how the boys have plenty of ladies but clearly have favorites 😣 Poor girls! It’s good you are being careful with your thumb and not trying to overdo things! Gotta be patient so it heals well and then your sewing and awesome cakes will be so much easier ❤️ way to be a good patient!

Summer here has been mild so far! We’ve only had about 3 days around 90, but even those days were ended with breezes that brought cool evenings. It’s been lovely after last years miserable 3 month onslaught of temps over 95…and I am soaking up every bit of the cooler evening temps! We ate dinner out on the patio last night and then played with chicks for a couple hours on the patio. So lovely! Kids started summer on 6/8, and started camps last week. Soccer camp, then volleyball camp, then softball camp. Then we go on vacation and when we get back they have more camps! :) Keeping them busy!! Aria also has a Girl Scouts camping trip at the end of July! They will be busy but our weekends are more open and I’m enjoying that too! Was a good weekend that helped remind me that it’s okay to rest and enjoy things more…instead of go go going all the time! ❤️

Newb here again. We are going to try something different for feeding our girls. Initially, I fabricated two 5-ft. long feeders made from PVC. They do work well, but not in all regards. The girls fling the crumble EVERYWHERE. So, I'm going to do things a bit different. I'm doing away with the long PVC feeders and getting a five-gallon bucket and some little cups that screw into the side that they have to stick their head into to reach the food. I'm hoping that will stop the incredible waste.

Also, we bought a 55-gallon food grade barrel for rain collection that I'm going to modify for a water source. I just need to get a few plumbing attachments, cut some holes, and get it set up. I already set up the gutters and water collection downspout, and so now I just need a few more components.

Stupid me went and bought all that scratch, thinking it was food instead of treats. So, I had to empty those two 5-ft. long feeders of the scratch and go buy crumble for them. All is well now though. Sheesh. So much to learn. We are on Week Three of chicken ownership. If our chickens survive all of my blunders, they (and I) will be all the better for it.
Sounds like your doing well! Learning as you go with no serious mishaps is the best any of us do ❤️

Love Hope introducing her babies! Everyone looks so fascinated ❤️
I'm glad I let some parts of my yard go to seed. The chickens really like searching the tall grass and eating the seeds. There are ten chickens in the first picture. They seem to be enjoying themselves.

This is their hangout under the back deck. Looks pretty comfortable for the chickens.

I culled the one lavender Ameraucana on Saturday. I'm not as thick skinned as I once was. Was fine about it for like 30mins the got dizzy and moody. Still a bit effected by it today but it needed to be done and was better than the alternative if it was allowed to keep on going.

Other than that every day I spend the evening with them the 4 that think I'm the greatest thing ever fly up and purch on me. Snuggle into my hair and trill at me. This makes me feel good and loved by these birds.
