Yep, pretty dumb of me. If he was after rats we would all have coyotes .
It was early and I lacked sleep... plus I realized the cat, Forest, probably carried that rat right over me while I was sleeping. Lucky he did not put it on my pillow . *Note to self, close window next to bed, get coyote... no, don't get coyote 🗒

A neighbor said they saw a fox a couple days ago a couple blocks away, so I’m hoping maybe it’s a fox that just looks a bit big given the angle of the camera and such. Foxes aren’t super great either, but they’re much more docile than coyotes and a bit less brazen. I’m gonna set up my cameras differently tonight to see if he comes back and I can get a better look at him. I bought some solar powered motion lights and fox urine (eww) in hopes that will convince him to keep going and not stop here anymore

I definitely think I’d keep the window shut so Forest can’t bring you more gifts like that

Well, the falcon came to visit again today.
The boys did their job and corralled the girls behind some plant pots and went on sentry duty each side of the pots. It was fascinating to watch them work together in getting the girls to safety and, more importantly, keeping them there. Both got extra treats for being such good boys.
Ferdy has discovered a new favourite snack (accidentally I hasten to add!) - sweet pickled onions! He's such an oddbod
Bad news is the rats are back. We've caught 4 in the last 2 days. Traps are out again tonight so we'll see what the morning brings.
At least we don't have to deal with coyotes ☹

Well, my sewing machine is binding. I did some cleaning maintenance but still having trouble with it. Think it needs oil and I don't have any up here.

So, went off to do some extra chicken chores a little early. I tossed the chooks out of the run, scrubbed and filled waterers plus vits in all, refilled feeders, then food storage containers with new feed after cleaning out. New nesting materials in boxes but the girls were still screaming, one went to the forest.... thats when I knew I needed a better plan. So, I cleaned and filled the cat carriers with nesting material again and placed in run. The screaming has stopped.

Also, gave Nina some forest grass and she was super excited. ♡♡♡

I ran out of the dry grass that I had cut from Waimea, so I raked up leaves from the yard with mixed cut grass from my few days ago weed whacking.

Seems to be... interesting.

If the old bats would be nicer to the chicks, they would probably go up to roost instead of sleeping and pooping in the nest boxes. Just a thought on cause and effect lol.
