What did you do with your flock today?

My opinion (guess) is I'd just give them the shelly sand for their calcium. But the grains might not be big enough to act as good grit for their gizzards. Maybe the sand has little rocks in it that are bigger than sand grains???

Just had a crazy thought, but I wonder how much of that microplastics stuff is in the beach sand now. Would it be an issue?
Good thinking! My guess would be not too much. One time we were at the beach and the water was filled with tiny pumice stones bobbing all over the place. Because they were small and light though, none were getting left behind as the water retreated. They just kept getting sucked back out to sea. Think the microplastics would be the same because they're also small and float. Maybe?

Maybe. I don't know, but I do know humans are pretty much destroying the world we live in. Well, that's my opinion anyway. Don't like to think about it because it makes me sad.

Well, @Smokerbill has an excellent point about the micro plastics. Our sand has always been beautiful and near perfect but things are a changing and I know many of our fish and seabirds are dying because of the plastics and micro plastics. I'll be sure to look with a microscope. I'll let you know what I find when I do grab some for my experiment.

I'm trying so hard to picture it and think I'm failing miserably! Is the dust mask inside the undies as a disposable pad?
Yes, the dust mask goes inside. I usually put a peice of kitchen towel or washable cloth in the dust mask as a liner. It has one big advantage over conventional chicken diapers as, because the poop is held away from the body, there's no poopy feathers to clean off. I'll see if I can find the article I got it from.

So we are getting 3 additional additions to our farm tomorrow. I’m so excited about them. I can’t wait to show pictures!

I have 14 days for my Cemani chicks to hatch and about 7 days for my chicks and my 4 ducklings to hatch. This will be a wrap for my ducklings and hoping a wrap for my chickens. I know I can sell them but it’s the roosters I’m having such a hard time. I wish I could keep them but I don’t have room for just roosters.

The black with the gold is one of my Ayam Cemani’s with a lot of leakage but he is so pretty I will probably keep him. But the other ones are just adorable looking but I can’t keep them. I have tried to sell them but people want them for little to nothing to just eat them. I have decided that if I can’t find them a new home, I would have them processed and hoping to donate them to families in need. And I have more than what’s in these pictures. All my barred rock and cuckoo maran crosses are boys. I’m so disappointed in that cause I was so excited about them.
They are so pretty! 😍😍
But ending up with all boys is no joke. This is why I'm not allowing any more chicks to hatch.
It's even harder to move on cockerels here. Most backyard keepers only want the ladies and there's no real appetite to process your own birds for food (pardon the pun).
The British Hen Welfare Trust runs a "Lonely Hearts Club" to try to match unwanted cockerels with new owners. Is there maybe something like that you could advertise on?

Your boys are stunning @FBMcrazy8 . Makes me miss having a small bachelor flock... oh wait.... 🫣View attachment 3592759
Thanks to @kurby22 jedi mind tricks (pretty sure 😉😆) and boy beeeeebies 😖 think I will again lol.

Good morning gang!
Just got finished with my first round of chicken and kitty chores and now wait for coffee. The weather is nice, good breeze.

After a good oil yestermorn, my machine sewed a perfect bead, so I was back in buisness, again.
Today will be much of the same. Then I will head down to help AJ clean her house and do some yard work, go to nice man's house and dose his kitties that were missed on the first round -he does not think real clear, so it is a challenge we have to get through- but I must say I look forward to not having to head down the mountain as much as I have had to this last week...
In less than one week the difference seen in NM's colony 👍👍 They now come out and wait at the feeding stations I started earlier, not so much skimbering and scattering of the starving ♡. The kitties I had trapped last week are showing up and looking a bit fatter already. Gotta see this one through. Hopefully, my next trapping will be easier and of healthier kitties ♡🤞
I don't know if I told you that NM lives in a wild and remote location, steps from a near private beach. Old missionary land, still in the family. Here is a small share.View attachment 3592818View attachment 3592828View attachment 3592797View attachment 3592808
One more week till dh's family starts flying in etc. Gotta get 3 messy houses spotless, cars, yards etc. Gunna be a stressor. Good news is the chickens are fabulous ♡
How gorgeous! And hopefully healthy, contented kitties to decorate the view soon, thanks to your hard work.

Our coastline is much more rugged and bleak.

Yeah, when I had barred rocks 20 years ago, a few of them layed doubles for a while too. Maybe it's more common with the barred plymouths, you think?

And I got a couple soft shell eggs back then too when they were starting. But it seems like more than a coincidence that there were three soft shells the day after some extremely stressful happenings with the flock.
You're probably right on that. I only got doubles from ISAs and Sapphire Blue PR.
