What did you do with your flock today?

It’s crazy hot outside (not as bad as @LTAY1946 or @ChicksnMore but too hot for me! 😆) so I didn’t stay out long, but had to share some pics I got of Momma and her unsanctioned brood getting some grass time 😍😍

Well good morning all and happy ... Wednesday😜?
So flight ended up being full, but I sat next to the most loveliest of gals. She worked for the planning department on Kauai and was on her way to Lahaina.

Arriving in Kahului I was shocked to find the remodeled airport was a major hub and resembled more of the Oahu airport than the Maui i knew a few years back. Well done, but a big change. Same with Kahului town, changed, big and busy. I did not recognize its old charm that I so loved.
Taxi to get my kid and we quickly got out of there. Back to busy airport and took an earlier flight. Only had time to get him a nice big burger, which he Wolfed down and then onto plane.... then Kauai bus for 2 hours till home.
Gave him a covid test b4 he jumped into shower and he was positive. Ugh!!! So a quick pack, then into my truck we went up Koke'e. The kid is beat in every way.
Got a few good meal in him thank goodness, lots of fluids and he is back to sleeping. He does not have symptoms yet, beside tired but....
So good to have this place to run to. So good to be up with my lovely chickens. It is cool up here and raining now. I am grateful.

I watered down some white giants and dark cornish again for using the log pile for a roost. I really need a back hoe to move those logs into a ravine to decompose and maybe being lower those crazy kid aged chickens would use there coop. If I ever get them all in the coop at the same time I will not let them out if it is 120° in the shade. The will have a new run that is sealed every where so a mouse can't get in or out. I have the materials on site but just not able to do the build and install the sections in the 100+ degree heat. At the rate I'm going those pullets will have nests in the log pile and coming out with a brood of chicks before I get them locked up.

Trying to get my geese to not be so afraid of me….peas…yeah that isn’t working. Cracked corn…sure if it’s 50 feet away from me. Corn on the cob…same. Carrots, forget it. Not really sure what else to try. It’s ok though if they never really like me. They are pretty and I love them anyway.
O those are gorgeous birds!

Your poor son needs a break. Think he's got it there with you up Koke'e though. A little food for the soul for both of you. ❤️
Hope he doesn't get very sick and hope you stay well.

I know I should be cooing over the babies...but...SPOTS!!!!! 😍😍😍🤣🤣🤣 What a sweet group!

My neighbours are good with crowing too. But one family has just moved out and I'm terrified the new people will complain so I'm sort of in the same situation. I think giving them eggs - and maybe some other garden produce - is a great idea!

The stubborn, cuss-awkward part of me (big part of me tbh!) thinks they're no louder than barking dogs or screaming children - of which there are many in our neighbourhood - so just let them complain. My boys aren't going anywhere!
I agree. We have screaming kids on one side, with barking dogs, and 2 homes down more kids, mostly happy, playing noises, and another young dog which does excited barking. We are going to invite them to our cider press in October, since the trees have more apples this season. I believe I'm getting noise accustomed to crowing, as it doesn't seem to keep me awake much anymore. Last year when the one cockerel died suddenly, my neighbor said that it's awfully quiet, and he wondered what had happened.

Nothing like going home and having mama's cooking. Hopefully he avoids serious symptoms, and the smoke inhaled doesn't complicate matters. You can rest at ease, with him and all the kids. We have one more day of this heat. 91 is too hot for this area. My room doesn't cool off much at night right now. It's almost 9:00 and still 83.

It really is all in how you cook it! Both with cactus and okra. Gumbo has to be one of my favorite foods and it just wouldn't be as good without okra! Not the slightest trace of slime ❤️
Love me some gumbo, especially in the winter time. We could grow gobs of okra in Texas, not here. Love them stewed, pickled, and deep fried, and the crunchy 'chips' , the whole ones that are made like that.

Miss Broodypants was let out of jail tonight. I'll see where she's at tomorrow. She seemed more calm and not screechy and puffy. They have all been guzzling their water lately since it's unseasonably hot for the past several days. One more to go. @FBMcrazy8 @LTAY1946 @kurby22 @Smokerbill @ValerieJ , I hope that you and your poultry get through this crazy hot weather ok. I think I'll give them some frozen treats tomorrow.
