What did you do with your flock today?

Out of my 10 pullets (Townline Hatchery), only my white OE has been laying so far. She started early at 18.5 weeks. My black OE isn't showing any signs yet.

The combs have been really redding up on everyone else, but no action. Until today, that is! One of my GLW started squatting today ❤. I expect to see an egg from her in the next day or two 20.5 weeks old tomorrow.

As of today, I've collected 10 eggs, which brings my cost average down to $600 per egg. Making progress ☺

I'm also an expectant chicken mom. My Cream Legbar rescued chick is 20 weeks, and her comb is reddening up.

Miss Broodypants was let out of jail tonight. I'll see where she's at tomorrow. She seemed more calm and not screechy and puffy. They have all been guzzling their water lately since it's unseasonably hot for the past several days. One more to go. @FBMcrazy8 @LTAY1946 @kurby22 @Smokerbill @ValerieJ , I hope that you and your poultry get through this crazy hot weather ok. I think I'll give them some frozen treats tomorrow.

My chickens are doing fine. Much cooler out where they are. Plus I keep a little water running under the trees and give them watermelon for treats. But, like yours they are definitely drinking a lot of water.

Mine did great today, even through the 103 degree high temperature. Their daytime run is covered with an insulated metal roof, and I soaked the woodchips on the run floor with cold water 4 times. And later in the day I tossed in a 1/2 gallon size block of ice, just for the heck of it. They pecked it, but not sure they really liked it.

Offer the eggs anyway. Before the issues!!! Paint a smile on that face and your best foot forward. And your best dozen eggs. Maybe they will come to love the chicken?

I will! Just hope they're not vegans

I've had the chickens 4.5 years and roosters for 3. No complaints so far and all my current neighbours tell me they love them. Well, to my face anyways...

I've always wanted to live somewhere green and lush with the occasional deer traipsing through my yard ....but, i have learned to enjoy and appreciate what we have here. Except for the fire ants, rattlesnakes and mosquitoes . What are mosquitos even doing in a desert!?

Beats me! Another example of how adaptable insects are?

It really is all in how you cook it! Both with cactus and okra. Gumbo has to be one of my favorite foods and it just wouldn't be as good without okra! Not the slightest trace of slime

What's the secret? I'm all for giving it another try as I enjoyed the fresh flavour (reminds me a bit of runner beans and asparagus peas) just not the slime.

My big coop was where my turkey and my last remaining show chicken from last year lived. My small scoop was where my new birds and ducks were I switched them since the littles were moving to far from the coop the other turkey and chicken free range. well the bigs weren’t happy they had to move they stood by their old house all day. now I have my turkey ducks and big chicken in with all of my new birds(Brahmas, lavender Orpingtons, dark blue laced red wayandottes, speckled Sussex, and Ameraucanas) here is a pair I’m planning on breeding can anyone guess the color results??

I have a pool converted to a pond where I'm growing fish for both ornamental and feed. Usually I block it off because I've lost two roosters in it (pretty sure my Ayam Cemani is chasing/pushing the competition in...). But with temps in the triple digits, I opened it up for the goats to drink and the dogs to swim.

Recent heat has caused it to go horribly murky. I happened to be in the pond area and noticed one of the pump hoses was disconnected. I had just finished reconnecting it and was positioning the pump on it's shelf when I saw him.

He was soaked to the bone, head to foot. The pond muck had discolored his feathers so he was blending. He was sitting in the middle of a foam ring. One of several I use growing floating water plants in. But there he was, just floating around and glaring at me. I pulled him out and set him off on his way. He was pretty bedraggled.

I kept an eye on him the rest of the day. I noticed a bruise on his comb and come roost time he was still pretty rough looking. I finished evening chores and collected him from the coop.

He's had a luxurious bubble bath, a nice soak in rosemary scented bubbles and now he's snuggled in a towel watching TV. I think he's OK. But now I've decided to add more plants to the pond. Maybe an island of sorts.

It’s crazy hot outside (not as bad as @LTAY1946 or @ChicksnMore but too hot for me! ) so I didn’t stay out long, but had to share some pics I got of Momma and her unsanctioned brood getting some grass time
