What did you do with your flock today?

I'd describe it as a cross between watermelon and strawberry for flavor. It has to have a lot of citric acid added so the jelly varies a lot depending on if people use lemon juice or citric acid. I tend to use a little lemon and a lot of citric acid trying not to alter the flavor much.
Ooh! It sounds delicious. I love watermelon and strawberries!

Hehehe I know, such a funny dog! His blue eye definitely makes him look shocked. He has one of those faces that just looks so genuine and silly 😍

Yes, Shadow gets quite annoyed when we put him outside for the evening. He still has potential (I mean Koda manages! :) But he’s made it clear house cat is more his preference 😆 I need to get another good cat box for him, so until I do that he needs to go back outside and he is NOT okay with it. He is going to require some more supervision before he can around the chickens outside too. He thinks they’re great fun to bat at and play with 🤪

Today a chicken got spooked by him and landed on Koda 😆

This was after Aria harassed her with the HAT. 😆

Thank you, I think they’re pretty beautiful too 🥰
Oh my! That is just so cute! And what a lovely hat! 🤣
Where do you get them from?
How on earth does Aria keep them still enough to put hats on them? I don't think even Ferdy would sit still long enough for that!

Yesterday was 'entertaining' as far as the rat issue was concerned. After weeks of not seeing even a small sign of them, I got up at 5am to find two in one trap, presumably mother and child as the adult had clearly visible nipples. The other trap held another, slightly larger juvenile. Anyways, I put them on top of my grow house while I fed, watered and skipped out the chickens. I got my "rat bag" (an insulated cooler) for transporting them to their new home and went over to put them in. As I walked over, I saw a small rat run along the grow house roof and disappear over the garden wall. "Cheeky bugger!" I thought, "coming out in day light!", only to discover an empty trap, still fully closed, with no juvenile rat. Absolutely no idea how it got out 🤔
Onto the next rat adventure. Gracie (13 yrs old with only 3 canine teeth) brought in a 'mouse'. DH gave chase to take it from her. She dropped it and promptly lost interest. DH lost it. I found it curled up in my sewing machine of all places and it was a baby rat, not a mouse!
Then to top it all, DH calls me outside as there was a rat on the bird feeder. Definitely a mouse, it turned out, feasting on some peanuts. However, I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. There was a large rat sat on top of the greenhouse roof, staring me out!
I wouldn't mind them so much but they're causing a lot of damage by tunnelling under my plants. I've already lost several, including my beloved Vivian Pennell clematis and a stunning white lacecap hydrangea 😠

This morning I got to hold and feed 3 little roosters I took in and gave a home to. One is an Easter Egger x American Game and 2 are Indio Gigante x American Game. Each one sat on my lap and ate from my hand. That's progress. I know of nothing that is more pleasing than to have a lap chicken set in your lap and entertain you. My little RIR pullet ran me down for some one on one time and she too ate from my hand from my lap.

You have rats like we have snakes! Insidious little buggers!

Leaving on the 14th for about a week to attend a wedding so busy getting everything ready. I have to find pastel floral dresses for me and both girls, convince hubby to stop calling our relative bridezilla for asking we wear themed clothes (especially when her mom's on the phone), get the last of the babies out of the house, make a new map for our property, and figure out whats going on with the chickens I'm babysitting.
My friend was in a motorcycle accident and it's sounding like she has a long road to recovery ahead, so I don't think they'll be going home anytime soon, if ever. She has damage to her spine and might be paraplegic going forward. 🤞 that she recovers more thens feared, it's early so nothings certain except that she has a long hard road ahead. These are 20 some big chickens, and shame on me, but I really don't want to care for them forever. Sooo, hoping she decides on her own that a permanent home would make more sense at this point, but want to gently plant the idea of rehoming and then give her some time. She has an awfully full plate right now and there's no rush. I kinda feel like a heel worrying about how long I'll be caring for her chickens, but...I don't know.
Anyhow, that's tomorrows problem. So today is a property map, extra feeders/waterers dug out and cleaned. Older peababies need locked out of the baby area, and the youngest peababies need moved out. A closet check to see if I need to go shopping and a common sense chat with hubby...dress request is definitely ill timed since we leave so soon, but it's livable and we love her. And hopefully a little restful time with my animal babies too.

Today I was double-digging my raised beds, preparing them for autumn crops. I kept finding large white grubs. After I fed the first three to my flock I started collecting them in a cup.

I took them into the coop and sat down to distribute them.

Are you familiar with sharks and "chum"?!

Oh wow. That is a lot, and bad timing... sorry. So sorry for your friend and I am sure under different circumstances you would have a flashing welcome sign, but we can only do what we can do and it is good that you sense your limit. Something will work out... who knows, maybe they are perfect helpful chickens and will be an addition. Hard to see around corners ♡
Would love to see a photo of your dresses ♡ Cool theme IMO ♡
