What did you do with your flock today?

Spent the day sorting birds. I got permission to re-home most of my injured friends birds but I'm hanging onto a handful of her favorites just in case. The rest went to a neighbors friend today. One of her birds got loose ands living in my trees now. I've tried a step ladder and I just don't think I can catch her. Our mesquite trees here have huge thorns, shes roosting high, and she's very wiley. I might try setting a box trap for her when I have the time to sit and watch it.

Tomorrow a lady's coming for one of my boy ducks. I'm so happy to have found homes for my excess boys ❤️. Now I'll be down to two girls and three boys. Two boys and one girl are a bonded trio that I'd never dream of separating and the other two are also bonded, so it's just right.

Then this weekend a lady is coming to bring me a sick chicken to hopefully help (bumble foot) and she's going to take home a few young hens.

I'm slowly reducing birds! :celebrate

Now I just need to call Pete and see if he still wants a pair of geese and which if any green peas he wants, call the lady wanting white peas since they're old enough now... and see if I can find homes for the rest of the extra geese.

Good morning all, and 🌺Happy Aloha Friday!!!
I almost feel things have settled.... or I have caught up some and found my rhythm (touch wood) or not getting blasted with health emergencies at the moment. I despise this heat.

I never wrote that, 2 days after loosing B all 5 of my 4 month olds were deathly sick. None of my hens. I thought B was reproductive related... but??? I could not figure out what the littles got a hold of. It def seemed food related. Did they get ahold of an old lizard??? Did B have remnant maggots??!!! A few days later I saw my bigs pecking at cat litter that I spilt while filling boxes... could that have been it..?!! It is not the clumping type 🤔 Anywho, I lost 2 littles pretty quick after discovering they were sick. That is why I was thinking botulism. Now, I'm thinking clay or bad food??
The three have made terrific progress. 2 are a good 85% and the one in iso was just barely standing and head up last eve, that being an improvement. All felt very underweight, and I also treated all for eyeworms as it seemed 2 suddenly had a terrible case of eyeworms. One had sores on her face, another had sticktight fleas. Now... I know I have been busy and have not given my babies the hands-on that they deserve lately... but I am certain those are secondary conditions that came on strong, or opportunistic, preying on a dieing chicken. Anywho, such a mystery. Just glad I was able to save 3 (I think 🤞🙏)

That's very sad. So sorry for your loss and struggles with the littles.

I must have missed some posts somewhere! I'm so sorry about B and the littles :hugs Sometimes all we can do is make guesses while we work to save them. I wonder if they feasted on poisonous bugs or caught and shared a poisoned mouse? You've done wonderful saving the three whatever the cause. It sounds like something awfully potent hit them. I'm sure if anyone can figure out the cause, you will.

Thanks pal. I feel the same about you all. Some good minds and hearts on this thread. That is why I write out loud, to work stuff out and hear what I may have missed.
More good news. 2 are a good 90% 👍
And isolated pullet is eating on her own. I may even let her out tomorrow or the next day, I think.

So sorry to hear about so many in crisis at the same time, and for your losses. How distressing and stressful. You may not have predators, but dangers still lurk, some of which we don't see here.
🙏
