What did you do with your flock today?

I always call Ferdy my cut-price parrot as he's always on my shoulder 😂
Tiny sounds adorable! He sounds like Ferdy's twin, Ferdy always wants to try what I'm cooking too. He had a ball last night snacking on all the veggies I was prepping for our baked cod and roasted Mediterranean vegetables. He enjoyed them even more once cooked.

I blame YouTube for Ferdy's parrot-like behaviour. He's loved watching them since he was a chick. We're currently engrossed in the will they/won't they? Beaker beak and Tinkerbell hatch-a-long.
The more a parrot mimics human speech, the more he likes it!
Watching TV with Ferdy sounds adorable 🥰! Tinys very much my kids bird. He loves treats from me, and loves conversations and singing with me, but Tami's the only one allowed to pet him. The little punk will sit there and entice people over by sticking one wing out, moving it in little circles at you while he says "Hey! Come here! Come on over!". Then when people do, he lunges and tries to bite them! What a little jerk 🤣! We try to keep him outside or covered when guests are here. He's a crazy good talker though and definitely uses words appropriately. When I cover his cage he says "bad bird!", when it's loud and he doesn't like it he yells "shut up!" When he's happy with you he coos "O who's a pretty bird? Why you are!" And he asks you to sing for him (he likes to dance) by looking at you, waving one foot, bobbing his head up and down, and singing "lalala". We didn't teach him any of that though. The poor bird was 13? I think, when we got him and we were his 3rd home already. He hated the world when we got him, but you could tell there was somebody he loved once. He's been with us for 10-15 years now...a long time.

Morning gang! I was not getting notices and just figured all were busy so I stayed busy.
We have a kona low giving us delicious wet weather 😋. I had to do a town run with my son yesterday and thought of you allView attachment 3693922View attachment 3693923
Just some random building DS and I wandered into to stay out of the weather while we waited for his appointment. Seems this not-so-dumb cockerel had the same idea. Also, it looks like this is not his first venture into this casual meeting area 🐓♡♡♡.

I apologize in advance if I missed anyone's post. I was pages behind and sometimes catch up is tricky for me on my phone.

Today I wait and see if new bike makes it onto the barge. If so, Monday will be my pick up date!

*** small disruption from small curious kitty. 1/2 a roll of paper towels later, I now have a sparkling clean stove and a humble quiet house. But, I do need to order a new olive oil decanter, lol. Thank you kitty, i never liked the old one. Does remind me that I spend too much time disappearing on my phone. ***

Chooks are locked in their run for a bit longer. 5 eggs steady out of 14 girls. Long hiatus 🫤.

K. Better get after all my chores.
🌺Aloha Wednesday!!!!
I wonder how long chickie got to hang out? 😂

I had to do a sneaky catch on one of the big Delaware boys today. I held him while may unwrapped a piece of string from around his foot. Very glad to have seen it and got it off before it cut into his foot. Nearly lost a pullet from the same thing once before. As hard as we try to keep the strings in the bottom of the feed cans under new bags of feed until we gather them up at once, some crafty kid gets in the can and plays with the strings.

Limiting treats? What does that mean? :gig
Seriously though, I try not to give unhealthy treats or anything else with lots of salt, sugar or fat. Unfortunately, Ferdy is more than capable of helping himself so his diet is much less controlled. I'm liberal with treats because, with my first hens being ex-batts, I was of the opinion that they only live short, hard lives so they deserved spoiling! Never got out of the habit. And as long as my birds remain healthy and happy, I'm not really concerned about egg production or anything else.
Ferdy is very good at telling me exactly what he wants for snacks. He sits on my shoulder whilst we look in the fridge. He will then crane his neck towards the food he wants, grunt and do a happy dance if I pick up the right thing. We often have a disagreement over him wanting cheese or butter though!
He loves the pantry too. In there, he will tap on the canisters he wants to investigate. If he's not interested in the contents, he makes a dismissive noise so we move on. He absolutely recognises his nut tin - a miniature amaretti cookie tin - and he's usually in agonies of impatience to get to that! 🤣

I don't keep a journal. I tried when I was 8 or 9 and concluded my life was way too boring.
The Intelligent Chicken Show, starring Ferdy and the Gang! You do have a journal of sorts, right here!

Had to share this feather I found out in the dwarf coop today. I think it almost looks like it has eyes and should slither away. What an odd feather!
