Several years ago I had 12 eggs shipped from Florida to Washington because I wanted a Buff Orpington rooster. Only one egg hatched and that was my beloved Pippi Longshot, the rooster in my avatar photo. He was the best rooster ever. I miss him.Candled my shipped eggs for the first time since they went in the incubator. 16 eggs and only 5 showing veins. One with a red dot thatcontinues. A few blood rings and the rest are nothing at all. Its been 5 1/2 days... usually that's long enough to tell, but I always give 10 before tossing any.
They mailed them late on the 21st and do 2 day mail...but with Thanksgiving in there the eggs didn't arrive til the 24thand they flew all the way from Florida to Arizona. Loooong way! Still, the air cells looked so close to normal that I had higher hopes. But...I'm still happy. All things considered, it's not too bad.
Nowall five make it to hatch!

Sometimes!You speak rooster too!??!!!
He sounds just wonderful!Watching TV with Ferdy sounds adorable! Tinys very much my kids bird. He loves treats from me, and loves conversations and singing with me, but Tami's the only one allowed to pet him. The little punk will sit there and entice people over by sticking one wing out, moving it in little circles at you while he says "Hey! Come here! Come on over!". Then when people do, he lunges and tries to bite them! What a little jerk
! We try to keep him outside or covered when guests are here. He's a crazy good talker though and definitely uses words appropriately. When I cover his cage he says "bad bird!", when it's loud and he doesn't like it he yells "shut up!" When he's happy with you he coos "O who's a pretty bird? Why you are!" And he asks you to sing for him (he likes to dance) by looking at you, waving one foot, bobbing his head up and down, and singing "lalala". We didn't teach him any of that though. The poor bird was 13? I think, when we got him and we were his 3rd home already. He hated the world when we got him, but you could tell there was somebody he loved once. He's been with us for 10-15 years now...a long time.
Is he named after the race horse on the TV show heartland?? Or did you just like the name?? He is sooo beautiful!!View attachment 3221179
Cisco says "hi!"
He sounds just wonderful!
They're not birds for everyone and I don't think a lot of people understand the commitment involved. Being so intelligent, they need lots of love, interaction, time, patience and empathy I would think. I would absolutely love to have one or two - a whole flock! DH isn't sure he could deal with the tantrums and the noise, though.
At least he has the best home he possibly hope for now and I'm sure it's his forever home too.
We go to an exotic bird supplier a few times a year which also does chicken supplies. They have a rescue hyacinth macaw named Jess who lives there permanently with a big sign on her aviary warning customers she will bite hard and without warning. Of course, first time we went, I only had eyes for her so I didn't see the sign. I started chatting to her, putting my face close to the bars.... She came over and snuggled right into my cheek! Every time we go back she remembers me, always comes over for a scritch and has never shown any aggression. I'm allowed to give her treats by the owners, which I'm sure helps! I was so lucky I wasn't bitten that first time.
Watching TV is sometimes hilarious with Ferdy, especially when he starts trying to look round the back of my tablet or the TV.
It's a beautiful feather! I love the way it has that perfectly straight dividing line between the chestnut and black on the bottom half!Had to share this feather I found out in the dwarf coop today. I think it almost looks like it has eyes and should slither away. What an odd feather!View attachment 3694368
