What did you do with your flock today?

Been a busy month so I’m not at all caught up on the thread, but wanted to pop in and share some cute pics

My project Watermaal ladies went broody and I was out of town for work…sooo,

I gave them a couple last Ameraucana eggs from by blue/splash pen and let them keep the eggs they’d gathered of their own that were at least 5 days along. Looks like out of the 12 eggs I’m gonna get 6, two Ameraucanas and 4 Watermaals. They're so adorable and fluffy and teeny! And outside which makes me happy!

As for the rest of the flock, I still have three brooders to move outside and I’ve released all the breeding coops so they can enjoy the summer heat Feels really good to be done with the chaos of babies! Cannot wait to sell some more

Oh I wish I could freshen my flock with some of those!!!! Gorgeous!!!

Just been a bit all over the place nuts. Yes, think spring has something to do with it... but mostly I blame it on my inability to say "no" and of course, just life but mostly...

You can have some of our rain! I think we've only had 30 dry days since January and our temps are about 3° below average for June. The chickens are still enjoying their watermelon regardless.

I think I could be quite happy with 30 dry days here in the rainy state.

Poor Onyx is not feeling well again. Her backside was pulsing when I got a closer look. Her pattern now seems to be one egg a week, with a few days of malady in between, then bouncing back. Not sure what to do for her. Any suggestions? She is difficult to catch, let alone try to get any treatments done. I wonder if there is something amiss in her belly?

Today was a bit warm, about 95⁰. Most of today was spent making sure the flock had cold water and coolish places to be.

I've taken to breaking up my excess eggs and freezing them in a little baggie so the chickens can have cold treats. They treat them like I treat ice cream, so it seems to work well.

I have a question. A while ago, I hatched some chicks because someone asked for them. Out of the batch I hatched, I kept a couple of welsummers. This little dude is about 2ish months old. Knew he was going to be a roo at about 1 week... He decided to start crowing at about 2.5 weeks.

Has anyone else had a chick like this? I'm curious about how they turned out when they actually matured.

Do you mean a welsummer cockerel or a cockerel who was clearly all man very early on?
If you mean the latter, I knew Ferdy was a boy 4 days in from hatching and he was trying to mate with his mom at 3 weeks. He didn't try to crow until he was 5 weeks, though. He has turned into the best roo ever! He's respectful to everyone, takes care of his ladies - he got caught outside yesterday in a downpour (3 inches of rain in 10 mins) and I went out to find him in a corner with his back to the weather, shielding the ladies with his wings spread out. He also (with the help of his son) protected them from a falcon, which they fought off. He always alerts me if something is amiss and is the most snuggly boy ever. He's also very bright and a problem solver (he's house trained and has learnt to open his coop from the inside and our kitchen door). He also lets me do anything with him e.g. he sustained a nasty eye injury during the falcon attack which means I have to put eye drops in daily. He never protests and just sits in the crook of my arm until its done. I absolutely wouldn't swap him for the world, he's definitely one in a million!

I did, indeed, mean a cockrel that was all man very early on. I haven't seen him try to mount anyone, but he was tid bitting for his mom by week 2 or 3.

Ngl, the first time he crowed, I thought he had been stepped on by his mom. It sounds really funny when they're still in the peeping stage.
