What did you do with your flock today?

Came home from vacation and was amazed at the changes with the chicks.

Remember "Little Chick"? The one who was pecked and left for dead, twice? Well, he grew a pretty handsome tail while we were away:

He attacked my feet last night after we got home. I just stood and watched until he gave up. Today he gave a few perfunctory pecks, then wandered off. Good.

Pullets I am keeping:

Priscilla aka Prissy

I'm going to keep a boy from the latest hatch, "yellow band". He is now dubbed "Silas". Here he is with Esther and Prissy:

He'll be my "roo in the queue" in case Zack doesn't work out.

I'll probably take the other two boys to the auction this Saturday.

Glad to be back, I missed my daily interactions with my flock.
They've grown up beautifully 😍. Gorgeous birds!
Stan went through a phase of pecking my feet when he got to about 6 months old, he soon grew out of it. He does still do it occasionally but a sharp "No!" sends him running for the coop 🤣
I might be in love with Prissy.

I doubt we've had 30 dry days since March!
I doubt we've had more than a sprinkle of rain since May, and it's been hot. The corn fields are brown, and I'm afraid the soybean and cotton crops are ruined as well. We're finally getting rain.

She's a pretty little thing, and BOSSY.

For those of us raised on Warner Bros cartoons Prissy is a familiar name.
:D

Wow! I'd gladly send you some of our rain! Do you normally get a lot more rain than you've had? I know cotton crops use a lot of water. Or do farmers rely on irrigation?

I loved Foghorn Leghorn as a kid! I too spent more hours than was probably good for me watching Warner Bros cartoons.
My younger brother was scared of Marvin the Martian, to the point I had to watch with the volume off while he buried his head in the sofa cushions.

We get an average of 48" of rain annually.
☔
The last three days we've gotten a lot, probably 6" or more. It should help, but I think much of the corn crops are beyond saving.
