What did you do with your flock today?

trimmed all the chickens nails today! took forever but I'm glad to have it done!

Good work! Mine don't need doing too often as I have sand in the runs which files them down naturally. But Ferdy and Stan need their spurs trimming. Dreading shortening Stan's as I managed to pull one off completely last time!

ooh I can imagine, I've never had a rooster but I'm sure it's hard work! I have sand too, the last time I trimmed nails was 1 year ago and they haven't needed it since then but they have recently so I'm glad I got it done

My roosters are entirely accidental! I live in a very urban area so roos were never on the agenda but that all changed when the 4 wk old, bantam Cochin chick I brought home in 2020 started crowing at 9 weeks old. So I now have his son, Ferdinand (Ferdy) and his grandson, Stanley.
Ferdy is an absolute dream - he's part house chicken, very intelligent and a perfect gentleman. We have a very strong bond and I can do literally anything with him, so he's not hard work at all. He's never even as much as looked at me funny.
Stan isn't as cuddly and can be a little unpredictable. He shares a brain cell with his mom and also her mildly anxious disposition. He's also very mischievous. But he's also good to handle and mostly tolerant of foot maintenance, being bathed, medication being administered etc.
Maybe I've just been extremely lucky but I've not found roos any harder work the hens.

I’m so happy I popped onto this thread because I was starting to be concerned with my 5 GLW’s molting and not laying since Sept. You all seem to have similar experiences. My other flock of 2 seem to have aligned with the older GLW’s, so noones laying and everyones molting! jeesh I’m in CT and the hens will be 4yrs in the spring

And I am still actively looking for Forest Kitty every night by feeding bait stations where I also TNR. I have returned 3 kitties to their people and fixed quite a few more kitties and helped.... many. Good work.
I have not been able to get back to sewing bags as it is still too sad for me. Sewing was a me and Forest thing... soon though.View attachment 4009393

don’t feel bad I didn’t either and just recently I trimmed a couple of my ducks nails cause they were getting really long and I tried trimming one of my chickens nails and it bled and I feel horrible and I don’t want to ever trim her nails again unless they’re way too longbecause I felt so bad

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to do it. None of them are complaining about their nails.

Good Morning for Middle Tn!!! I am new to this thread!!! I am a chicken tender of 11 hens and 2 chicks. One seems to be a rooster! Woo Hoo!

Last night I socialized the chicks so they will be easier to handle.
