What did you feed your chickens today?

My bird's regular rations are a tube feeder full of Purina Flock Raiser. I also have another feeder full of three parts whole corn, one part wheat or whole oats, and one half-part of alfalfa pellets. Just at the moment I'm using half and half Flock Raiser and Layena because my wife wanted those pink Layena bags. The birds in the fixed yard also get whatever kitchen scraps there may be.

Today's food for them included a bunch of squash guts, seeds, and cooked shells. (I know my spoon doesn't get as much of the meat out of the shells as the chickens do!) They also got some overcooked green beans, and some sliced potatoes that had started to sprout.

In addition to their regular feed, a hand full of BOSS early this morning, and some overripe strawberries and Halloween pumpkin "guts" this afternoon! Should make for some pretty tasty orange egg yolks!

A mix of organic layer and growth feed (free choice) is always available (I have a mix of layers, youngsters, molters, and a rooster). They also got BOSS, scratch, 3 apple cores and beet greens that got too dry to cook.

Today was the coldest day yet (upper 30s at dawn). I feel bad for my 2 girls that are half naked because they decided to molt last. I might take them some hot rice or oatmeal tomorrow morning.

You can make a nice dress for your girls with any old fleece material :) I made mine for saddles, but they don't need them these days.

I didn't have the tail piece cut out and stop the saddle just before the tail. Worked pretty good once i got a decent fit.

My flock has eaten layer pellets and scratch, Black oil sunflower seeds, a couple banged up apples (I bang them on the fence post around the sides abit before I give them) some grapes, and eeeek shhhh.... cake. No frosting tho.

eta: I like giving my flock their layer pellets soaked up with warm water into a mash...in the summertime its cold water. I keep an eye on it and make sure it doesnt sit to sour and spoil. And adjust the amounts given.
