What did you feed your chickens today?

LOL! This is great!

Today I ran out of layer pellets (more tomorrow) so they got plums, squash, tomatoes, tuna, BOSS, cracked corn, and birdseed. YUM! I put the whole can of tuna in the run, and threw the rest around like scratch. They had a ball! They usually have to do some work for their scratch, there was so much of this that it was everywhere they looked.

A whole pumpkin, some leftover tuna, and of course their layer pellets and free range diet from the pasture.

Feed...unlimited Layer pellets, free choice grit, and oyster shell.

treat... mush concoction; an expired boiling bag of Uncle Ben's Rice - cooked stove top; a 1/2 cup of cornmeal, 1 teaspoon of white flour with a dash of salt and 1 cup of water - cooked microwave; 1/2 cup of oatmeal with a dash of salt and 1 cup of water - cooked microwave; 1/3 cup of powdered milk; 1/2 teaspoon of sugar; 1 tsp. of powdered eggshell. All well mixed. yum.

My girls treat today was to eat the kids' leftover dinner from last night : fish sticks and corn and tater tots. Also had some brown rice that dried out so I put some water in and some crushed eggshells from scrambled eggs this morning.

I put the crushed up eggshells in a plastic container with some water and microwaved it until boiling - about 3 minutes. Then fed it to the girls on top of their corn and tater tots. Hope it was small enough pieces for them to not get that egg pecking feeling!

Since I just came in from serving breakfast ...

The 14-week-olds and the layers both got a warm mash consisting of sprouted wheat, oats, and lentil, spent brewery grain, cracked corn, cooked peas, with fish meal, Nutri-balancer and kelp mixed in. For the layers I also hung a feeder full of Layena, which I'm in the process of using up.

Later, they'll all get greens, and depending on how quickly the young birds clear their mash, I may hang a feeder of dry mash for them.

I gave a handful of frozen corn(I microwaved it) and I crushed up 2 egg shells since I made my husband eggs this morning!

Popcorn! The just-off-the-kernel kind, of course.

They also get cereal on a regular basis. They go nuts over (uncooked, of course

) Quaker Oatmeal. They got Rice Krispies yesterday and Cheerios the day before.
