What did you give your chickies today?

if they are not given these treats before then they will not understand them. Give it time, they will go nuts over them later. My pullets did not like goodies either , but soon they loved everything I gave them. Today they eat everything under the sun .

They are kind of like humans.

The young ones are really fussy, and they are cautious with new foods, but as adults they eat pretty much anything.

Thanks for the info on they beans. I try them on them again, but like if I give them a stew with lots of ingredients, they will eat everything except for the beans. But my hens are spoiled and are probably over-fed, maybe that has to do with it too.

Today was smorgasbord: hand-fed BOSS (to make sure even the shyer birds get treats), a fresh head of cabbage hung for them from the shepherd's hook they KNOW is for their Tether Cabbage games, and the rinds and seeds to two cantaloupe.

Black Oil Sunflower Seed. Commonly considered "bird seed" and often found in bird seed mixes. Not the regular grey-striped (and larger) sunflower seed. It's about 15-16 % protein, so its better for them than "scratch," as far as I am concerned. High in fats because they are an oily seed. The hulls and seeds are good for poultry and help promote feather growth.

I went to town today and brought back a small cheese danish. I came in through the back gate and pulled out the danish and started eating it from one end. The hens jumped up and started eating it from the other end. When we got near the middle I let them have it.

Girls got romain lettuce , oatmeal ( strawberries and cream packets ) and regular oatmeal warm and yummy, the a cup of yogert added to it.
Yesterday they had boss , and meal worms and rice and beans ( from a few days earlier we had for dinner)
