I kicked the 10 week old chick out with the rest of the flock for good so my chickens spent the day getting used to a new full time coop-mate. No more chicken in my kitchen! Whoot Whoot!

just put a net over my run with 6 girls and Bob (the man) after a hawk made a lunch out of one of the buff girls today.2nd one in a couple months.. lesson learned, the hawk seems to only pick light colored hens. 1) white leghorn 2) buff ...not too happy right now

Nugget ate snow and made chicken tracks.

My girls ate some warm soup, complained about the cold, and were sent to their coop to dig scratch and mealworms in their shavings to stay warm. I can't wait for this cold snap to be over.

My girls are not happy about the cold and small bit of snow we have! They are all huddled in their dust bath tent thingy. Silly chickens! This isn't even a quarter of the snow we usually get in new england!

Only Nugget played in the snow. The other girls ran right back in the coop.

I lost my Hen Betty last week. Not sure what got her . Did the Hawk dive and kill on the ground or carry off? Did you see it happen? Sorry for your loss. I was so nervous all day yesterday running out all afternoon everytime the other 5 hens bolted. I had kept them in their coop after last weeks loss. They were very skiddish..something is stalking them from the air I think.
