One of my barred rocks tried to mate with my game hen today. Just jumped on up and grabbed her by the neck and everything. Guess I know who one roo is! Lol
Breed and age comes into play as well. I had a Silky in charge, hatched a Maran. He was a gentle, quiet roo. When the Maran was big enough he stopped allowing the silky to tell him what's what. They had a comb tearing fight for a bit and then settled on the Maran as head roo. The Maran is more boisterous but still gentle around humans.
Then hatched two more silky roos who thought they were the bees knees until the bigger silky took them down a notch or two. Finally got an old silky rooster returned from a friend who had him. He was quiet at first allowed the others their space. He is the oldest and now second in charge behind the Maran.
The silky boys all sneak attack the girls because anyone bold enough to court them in front of the Maran gets the poop knocked out of him.
My feathered kids were treated to a bunch of worms and moths today. I'm working on clearing a new area close to the back of the house, to put up a decent sized open ground pen for for big girls to run in. In turning virgin ground I hit the jackpot with worms. After dividing them between all my babies, they watched me very closely to see if I was carrying my worm jar around.
Curious Georgia on the left was very interested in what I was doing.
Some of my little Silkie chicks met their future roommates/coopmates out in the yard today.. the little guys chased around the hens and boroughed underneath their feathers every once and a while.. TOO CUTE!
