What did your chickens do today?

Today I went to give my dig some food scraps. I called him and to my surprise (well not really since she does this all the time) my hen ran at full speed to vet scraps before the dog got there. Its always fun to watch.

Here's another one for you LittleBits....

Scared the crap out of me! I wish he could just sleep like a normal chicken

hahahah, "giggling"...that's too funny!

Well, I let Madonna out and she hauled butt ahead of me to the bird feeders for black sunflower seeds. Then she ran to catch up to me as I went to check on JamJam in her own enclosure. Well, of course Madonna slipped in and cornered JamJam in the Dog Carrier, and screaming like a girl ran around til Madonna jumped on her. Well, I chased both of them under the sheets tearing them loose to get JamJam out and catch Madonna...so, I picked up Madonna had to go back in her put her back in her enclosure and lured JamJam back to hers with dried Meal Worms...God! I didn't need any more caffeine after that!

My head is spinning.... Lol

One of my roos decided to charge at me, again, and try to peck at my feet. He was put in the timeout pen so I could have a talk with him. While he was in there he found a mushroom and tore right through it and was very excited. The lesson he learned was attack the guy that feeds you, get a great treat. I think I may have to reconsider the timeout pen...

My curious little Leghorn "Lady" is always wondering what I'm doing. I was filling the feeder troughs with fermented feed when she flies right in to see what's going on. It was the funniest thing ever when she realized what she just flew into! Haha! She was so embarrassed when she sat on the roost drip drying.

John, I ran across an article here on BYC on asserting your dominance to your roosters so that they know you're in charge. I will look and see if I can find it. I'm pretty sure it was a featured article. It was written by a member a few years ago. It was very informative. When we had RIR (which are lovely chickens but too aggressive for my taste) the roosters were extremely mean. Truthfully, I was afraid of them. I wish I had found this article a long time ago. I wouldn't have been afraid of those roosters and had to re-home them. My Maran rooster is now about six or seven months old, he once pecked me for picking up the chicks, I immediately picked him up and held him until he calmed down. We had a couple of instances where he tried to rush us when interacting with the chicks in the yard. Did the same thing and haven't had any trouble out of him since.

My husband talked me into leaving the chicks in their secure run tonight. I'm a nervous wreck! I've been outside every 30 minutes for the last few hours checking on them. I know they're safe in there, otherwise I wouldn't have agreed. But they've not spent any time out of the elevated coop at night.
